What's the leading cause of death in No Man's Sky?
I'm thinking of trying a permadeath save. So far, I've died mostly to sentinels and being too cocky. Usually it's those darned sentinel puppies that jump through the earth and kill me. Oh and I did get awestruck by my first underwater cavern and drown, but I'm sure I won't do that in a perma save.

Probably hitting the ground too hard when "melee jumping" as you take greater fall damage.

Ngl, gravity has gotten me more times than I’d like to admit

Stalled weapons because of reloading is the biggest killer by far.

I think I've yet to do this, though gravity probably hurts more on perma difficulty.

Permadeath, its the first 10-30mins. After that, its easy.

I havent died, in any version, since the expedition where you had to die. I didnt like that one.

Bugs and glitches are the most dangerous thing and teh only thing that can kill me. Especially in the default settings.

Edit: I thought about it more, the 5* sentinel capital ships are the only thing that scare me. One, they do hit hard. Two, i get stuck INSIDE the dang thing (trying to get inside the shields) and ship health will drain super fast. I did have to "eject" once on permadeath (quickly pause and reload my last save) when getting stuck INSIDE the sentiel ship. Its a combo glitch/bug/rough-game-mechanic and is the only thing that scares me in Permadeath)

Pretty sure environmental kills are the most common.

I died two times, both times because of glitches. First was getting stuck while in a fight, the other time I got smashed into the ground while glitching down a cliff.

Sooo... I'd say:
1. glitches
2. gravity

.
342. everything else

For me, definitely the geology cannon, mistiming that is... very deadly lol

For me it "life". I play, and suddenly something happens in real life which requires my attention. I leave the game, and when I get back I've died several times over and lost everything.

You know you can burn the dreadnought's guns off, right? It becomes a paperweight once it has no guns, which allows you to farm the interceptors that show up to defend it.

Also, I would like to introduce you to a little thing called the Phase Beam. It doesn't do much to unshielded opponents, but it eats their shields off like a champ... and recharges your own shields when it does so. You can learn the blueprint for an addon for it called the Fourier Delimiter, the description for which claims to "significantly improve heat performance"... but its raison d'etre is to add 50% more shield recharge when you use the phase beam to drain their shields, making you practically invulnerable (note: does not work on freighter shields, only starships).

I use sentinel dreadnoughts to farm nanites; brains stack to 10 (edit: might be 5 in survival/permadeath, now that I think about it), refine into 230 nanites each (make sure you watch them cook; don't leave the refiner menu), and are trivial to acquire in this fashion once you have even a half-decent set of starship modules. Salvaged glass is nice, too. A phase beam to keep your shields healthy, a chunk of sodium for backup, and you can pretty much just sit next to the dreadnought and pick off the interceptors as they arrive.

All of that being said, I find the leading cause of death to be "getting cocky". If I start feeling like I'm doing pretty well, it's a sign that it's time to take a break and let my paranoia recharge.

My wife says "Spawn, fail to find a cave in the first two minutes. That's most of them."

Plasma grenade to the face is my leading cause.

It's certainly the funniest. Got to love that ricochet.

I think my funniest death was accidentally shooting a battery standing next to it.
