Long answers
1. At every depth there is a chance to catch every size fish, just with greater or lesser odds. The chance of catching large fish at under 5U depth is very small (at a guess, <5%), but I've landed a few. Colossal fish are also possible (probably <1% chance). As you go deeper, the small and medium fish are still present in the upper "depths" while bigger fish become more likely in deeper water. Anything over 45U is sufficient to have the best chance to catch big fish.
2. Storm conditions just means they are added to the possible catch pool, they don't replace diurnal/nocturnal.
3. There is no skill involved. Once you get the 1st nibble taking the bait, the target fish will always latch on. Depending on your difficulty settings, you just have a time limit to click and reel it in.
2) No. Fish are identified as planet type (including all), size, and special category. The latter can be day, night, or storm. Fishing with storm lure in day has same odds as catching storm fish at night. However, there is still a small chance of catching day fish during the day regardless of the lure used.
3) Definitely not. I have tested and average time to catch as well as percentage of large are the same.
