Question about anomaly detectors and whale songs.
Does this still work? I read online in a few different places that you can use an anomaly detector and pulse until you get a whale song, ignoring the other anomaly notifications and continuing to pulse, in order to get living frigates, but these posts were years old and I'm currently trying this, so far I've only gotten "Deep space object detected" several times in a row.

Yes, it still works, but only after you have found your first one using the Dream Aerial. If you haven't learned the recipe for that and used it to get one living frigate, then the anomaly detectors will not find whalesongs.

Edit: In case you don't have the recipe for the Dream Aerial yet, you get it randomly as a frigate expedition reward, so just keep sending out frigate expeditions every day until you get it.

Also, regarding your several times in a row, it can take a bit of time before you get a whalesong. When I did it to get a fleet of all living frigates, in some systems I'd pulse for over 2 minutes without seeing a single whalesong. Of course, other times it would be super fast. Just stock up on Tritium (or Pyrite) and turn on Netflix if you are going to be hunting many of them.

I have a living frigate from the Dream Aerial yes. Can whale songs not occur in some systems maybe? Because I've been pulsing for awhile.

You can get one (and only one) from each system, but yes, sometimes it takes a while.

I added this as an edit above, but I'll repeat it:

I think the longest I ever pulsed in one system before getting one was something like 6 minutes. Most people would probably suggest if it takes longer than a minute or two...just give up and try another system, but I was watching a good series on Netflix so I didn't mind.

Have you figured out the favorite food of all of them and keep a food processor around stuffed with them, or just figured anything they'll eat is good enough in bulk?

You only need to feed them if they are damaged or if you want to change their stats.

Yes, they do. Uncharted systems may be what you're thinking of. Though you can get the whalesongs there, you can't interact with them once you do.

I've gotten all of my living frigates from uncharted systems. They do not have the merchant event so the odds of a whale song event are slightly better.

Are you sure it was uncharted and not abandoned? Last time I tried in an uncharted system they could not be interacted with and when I experienced that twice in a row, I checked the wiki and it says as much as well.

yeah... it is uncharted or abandoned systems... i forget which... i mainly wanted to answer the one poster's question about if some systems may not have whale song... that answer being "yes" with a restriction on the type of system...
edit: still wrong info... need new brain... sorry...

But it's not "yes". They still have whalesongs, you can still drop out and see the living frigate. You just cannot interact with them.

Been a while since I bothered to get a Living Ship, could it be the Harmonic Melody (or whatever it's called) for Living Ship upgrades?

Yes, I specifically look for uncharted systems and never had a problem interacting with them. I think there might have been a bug to that effect when they were first added, but that was resolved.
