Be interesting to know what your settings are. On mine {Normal or higher}, using Units to upgrade MT and/or Ship TECH/INV has exponential cost ... limiting its viability. Surely you are not making hundreds and hundreds of millions + to upgrade a single slot.
I cannot confirm or deny spending 50-100m on a spaceship or multitool slot. ;-)
At least you found an item you like spending units/nanites on. I think it is great that different players find different values in credits/nanites/tech. One of the greatest assets in NMS is that it lets you accomplish tasks in a variety of different ways.
Units become meaningless very quickly in this game, even more so if you like sending out frigate missions. They come back with most of the ingredients needed for the high-value items. You just need a small farm on your freighter to make the rest.
