Sounds like alot of folks don't like setting up the farms and gas collection for crafting tree that leads to stasis devices and/or fusion ignitors. I actually like that part of the game. As far as spending units, expanding ships and multitools can cost a lot for each slot, and quite a bit of money I've made has gone toward that.

Be interesting to know what your settings are. On mine {Normal or higher}, using Units to upgrade MT and/or Ship TECH/INV has exponential cost ... limiting its viability. Surely you are not making hundreds and hundreds of millions + to upgrade a single slot.

I cannot confirm or deny spending 50-100m on a spaceship or multitool slot. ;-)

Don't even need to spend units on that, just find a guild envoy that gives suit/ship/freighter/multi-tool slot upgrades for free for high enough rep. Then every time you re load the game or leave the system and return you can get another for free over and over.

At least you found an item you like spending units/nanites on. I think it is great that different players find different values in credits/nanites/tech. One of the greatest assets in NMS is that it lets you accomplish tasks in a variety of different ways.

I've dropped 3 billion units on a whim, upgrading slots on a ship I'll never use!

Units become meaningless very quickly in this game, even more so if you like sending out frigate missions. They come back with most of the ingredients needed for the high-value items. You just need a small farm on your freighter to make the rest.

Glad I saw this thread. It is great information on early units. Having been away from the game & now coming back it is amazing how many things got forgotten. In my main save I have the freighter & find that brings in lots of unit money. I sell most of what they find plus most of their outings also give units. In the save I have now I haven't gotten a freighter yet. Enjoying exploring planets & base building. Working on getting save for playing expeditions with. Just because I want to, lol. I am going to set up plants to earn easy money just selling them or crafting easy things from some of the ideas here. I don't like the big items that take lots of other things to craft before it can be crafted. I admire that some people do enjoy it though.
