I mean, the entire game is basically designed primarily for people who are collectors. There is very little reason to do anything in the game outside of that.
I don't know if you have even tried cooking any of the fish yet but just the most simple cook fish recipe, refining any fish in the nutrient processor results in almost a 300% increase in value. For example generalising a bit, but a 6000+ unit basic green or uncommon fish can be cooked and sell for upwards of 30,000 units. A collection of all rarity of fish can potentially add up to millions of units. (lol don't check my math)
This is where the automatic fishing traps become useful. Like settlements just leave them chugging away. Forget about fishing, go and save the universe and return just to collect their unit or equivalent cooked food nanite value, similar to the frigate missions, or farming plants or minerals.
Gamer Jaggid Edje above makes a good point about bait types. The legendary bait might be all you need to make (a full stack of 500 ) just leave it in the hook and only use it when near water if you remember. Catching a legendary fish may then be a fun bonus every now and then, but no need to ironically 'waste time' fishing... except maybe irl : D and you can do something else preferred in the game.
Fishing is just busy work for completionists.
Fishing actually can rack up the nanites pretty quickly if you release them, it seems.
I just released all of the fish that I caught during the expedition, except for the ones I sold for that milestone, and it was ~25,000 nanites worth of fish.
Oooh I know what I'll be doing with my auto traps from now on, since I've already pretty much filled a storage unit with processed fish product....
4.24B comes all too soon.
I should be able refuel a Squid Ship or a Living Ship with fish...
Scaling rarity (and size) increases the time taken for completionists to find/catch, and increases the rewards accordingly.
In fishing, the smallest common fish is only worth
In normal fauna scanning, the most common are worth a base value of
The Wonder Projector can also scale any creature to fit a 'custom built' tank.
