Aeration Membrane vs Underwater Protection Modules
Is there any reason to ever use the UPM's?

Aeration membrains can recharge from the candle plants, right?
UPM's don't? And require either dioxide or the crafted items?

Isn't the membraine older too, why did they even make the UPM latter, if it's not as good?

Is there any argument for "3 of each" other then "you have enough room" at the end?

Membrane + 3 underwater protection modules - that's what I have installed.
Underwater spending long time .
Re-charging regularly.
IMO this setup is good.
Works nice when tunneling for sulfide crystals .

The AM is slightly better than having to surface every time you need air. The S class underwater upgrades mean you can stay underwater for extremely long times -indefinitely as long as you have oxy to fuel them.

The "candle" plants are not always plentiful and they take a long time to respawn so relying on them alone can put you in a bad situation.

Yeah, these modules trickle down slowly and always give a time to recharge.
Anyway, Nautilus sub on my wish list.

Aeration Membrane and its associated Oxygen Rerouter upgrade are effectively upgrades for your "lungs" that allow you to hold your breath for longer.
The (up to) 3 UPMs are like SCUBA tanks that are refillable while underwater from your reservoirs of Oxygen or Life Support Gels.

There is no contest for underwater explorers.

think of the modules as extra tanks of O2. While you CAN recharge the Membrane with the plants, what if in a panic you find yourself without one in range? The Modules can be recharged with Oxygen which is useful enough for recharging Life Support so you should always have at least a partial stack in your inventory anyways
