Anyway to increase number of ships in collection?
I don't think it is possible from what I've read but I'll ask here.

My ship collection is maxxed out and i was wondering if there is anyway to increase the number of ships I can collect through quests or otherwise? I ask because I had to get rid of a S class ship in my collection to finish a Autophage quest to salvage a ship wreck the guy wanted as part of the staff quests. I tried to go back for my S class but couldn't interact with it... got me a bit salty even if it was one of my least favorite of the collection.

I know you can upgrade any class now to S, but I have my exotic ones and my tricked out S class ones that i use for different things so losing one kind of sucks.

thanks in advance for any help.

The maximum number of ships you can have is 12. There is no way to change that.

I have heard you can use the save game editor to copy and paste ships...still not able to exceed 12 in game but you could store extra ships on another save (used for that purpose) and trade them back and forth...so kind of close.

Better to just resign yourself to be a serial collector and refresh the 12 with a retirement and new ship every so often. Always wise to leave one slot open in case you find that "gotta have it" ship. At least for me, I am always in my favorite ride when I find something like that.

You can use the save editor to export a ship. That will save it for you to import into whatever save you wish. And i totally agree with saving one slot for "hey, that looks cool, let me try that out"

Another way to keep extra ships is to put them in your squadron.... but you won't be able to use them again, they would just be occasional eye candy from that point on.

I'm not aware of any way to increase the total...
Also, you don't have to complete any of the minor Autophage missions like that one... they are optional. If a random mission requires you to do something you don't want to do, then don't accept it (or feel free to abandon it)... you can always find another Autophage mission

That and if you were already scrapping Interceptors for cash ... just save stacks of the nano-spools. Keep them in an active Exocraft {will be pulled from there no matter where it is}, your Freighter's main cargo, ship etc ... they will just pull from those to complete those. Sell or keep the more expensive components in an inv that the quest giver cannot pull from {but they will take lowest value to highest ... but will take high value if that is all you have present ... "oops ... did I just pay 12 mil for a 480K request" lol}.

Being fair the first time I did one of those I went to the marker etc ... scrapped it and everything. But many will have scrapped long before that point ... so just save the lowest value comps before doing the Autophage missions. To note ... another on these forums mentioned a method to take advantage of these missions to generate ships for whatever purpose lol. Anyhow if you are carrying as I suggest {and allow them to take from it} this will be bypassed.

Yeah, the ship limit is pitifully small, and relying on a third party save editor comes with a risk.

The biggest issue with the fleet limit is when you start getting 1 off ships, like the Prime Vector or any of the expedition reward ships. Yes they are available to be claimed again on different saves, but if you have a main save, 5 slots (so far) will be permanently filled with these 1 off ships, unless you're prepared to "retire" one of these ships permanently from your save.

HG needs to add some kind of ship "vault" where you can export ships to digital storage or double/triple the fleet limit.

I am no collector, but agree. You use a great example with pre-order ships or even a romance with your starter ship. Then we have the reward ships ... only recoverable without intervention via the Expedition terminal {claim the reward again on a "sliver" then send it back} ... these ships alone are starting to add up lol. Again no collector, but of course I want to collect those supposed "1-offs".

Like a lot of folks I just use 1 ship and 1 tool {with exceptions like center plunging lol} ... but would like if we could at least double the amount. I am content myself, but foresee other reward ships in the future {if not slivered back ships from an Expo that had no terminal previously Redux style}.

For long-time players (like myself) that like to follow the sub-genre of "Ship hunting" in NMS, yes I'd love to see a "Vault" or some way to have a larger collection of Ships. I like to hunt the Sentinel Ships on Dissonant planets and enjoy finding one that is very different from the typical Sentinels.

But I also like to retain the more unique non-Sentinel Ships that I've spent hours gaining via waiting for them to land at a Trading Outpost or Space Station. Yes, there are faster ways to do that via Portal addresses of Ships someone else found and I've done that too.

If Ship Collecting qty is a personal Freighter issue, I'm fine with just having the limited number of them in my Freighter that we have today. I can always call a different Ship when desired. No, it is not necessary to have more than 12 Player owned Ships in NMS. But if you enjoy playing NMS, and do that long enough, you reach a point of looking for things to do. Ship hunting/collecting is one of those "things" for me.
