Aquarius expedition: Fins of Thunder
I can't seem to finish this mission. I've got 2/3 catches, but can't get the third. Suddenly storms, that used to happen every five minutes, barely occur at all. And when they finally do, the special bait for "stormfish" (firewater) does nothing. I mostly get common catches. Anyone else got this problem or is it just me?

there are many foods you can use as bait that have the "storm-loving" trait...

I'm not sure how good the firewater stats are, but...
If you have a decent haul of "Stonescale Shark" (I cant remember any of the other fish that work for this, but this one is a common) you can cook it to make "Fishy Slab", which provides a +29% rarity, +56% size, and has Storm-loving trait

Also helps to fish in deep water, at least 50u deep (during a storm obviously)...

I got mine very near the 5th rendezvous point. Used my ship to fish off of in the deepest water I could find. Didn't take too awfully long, baited for appropriate time of day/night/storm.

Literally am just taking a break from doing this mission after finally catching 2/3 of the storm fish (the storm ended too soon for #3 lol).

After a ridiculous amount of fishing on an ice world, I just discovered Edible Chum and Seafood Feast will do the trick as well (unfortunately I didn't write down what fishes converted to that, since I've been turning them all into bait haha)

Same same :D I also have edible chum in my inventory. By no stretch of the imagination could I tell which fish I cooked to get that :)

The best food I found because of ease and speed is doing this:
Kelp = Rice + any fish = Fish & Rice. It says it helps get storm fish.

Will definitely try this. Now that I am no longer stressed out by this situation, fishing could become relaxing at last. :)

I am stuck on this on One switch. Solved it on the other switch but so far almost filled up the cooking storage on this last objective of the expedition :(

Tried hot planet bases with storms, radioactive storms, and built a base on a stormy planet with activated copper and so far can not get a single storm based fish. Built 3 auto fishers too. I am going to wait for the next patch on the switch and hopefully have time to complete it.

For me following Shadow Strider's suggestions to the point helped. Got the right bait, checked the water depth. Just had to wait for a storm that wouldn't come :(. But yesterday I was lucky. Just as I was leaving the atmosphere to try another planet, I heard "weather warning: incoming storm". Nosedived back, hopped on skiff and, I swear, it was the very first catch, and then even another one. I wish you best of luck - and patience :)

How do you know what has a storm-loving trait?

thanks I didn't know about the storm-loving trait. I'll have to experiment! Guess it makes sense there'd be something like that...

Put it in the bait box. If it has an additional trait, it is written in violet color under the size and rarity percentage.

Took 3 days off and on but I finally got the first of 3 fish and get the next 2 over the next two days of working on it. Built a base on a high storm world "activated copper" and filled up the ole cooking box with sometimes full 25 stackaroos of greens, blues and some yellows. Figured out that if I had fish traps around I could not catch for storms on the switch. Maybe just a switch specific issue who knows.
