Should i start the aquarius expedition og stick to main story?

I am less than 100 hours in, but feel that I am getting a pretty good feel for the game by now. Shoudl i embark on the aquarium expedition, or keep bulking up my ships, exosuit, mutiltool and adjusting my gear by doing story lines, station missions and nexus missions?

It's still over a month to do it. It takes less than a week if you're committed to it, up to you. You don't take ships on the expedition with you anyway you have to start with a new one. Same with multi tools etc. I went in with nothing. You don't get to pick up what you have chose to take on the expedition with you until you reach space and the anomaly anyway.

It's not a difficult expedition and doesn't take long to complete. Probably worth just doing it tbh.

Do the expedition. It's only about 6 hours if you focus, is completely detatched from the storyline, and the rewards (or to be more accurate, resource carryover opportunities and units/nanites) aren't appreciably impactful on mainline progress when you jump back.

Yes. That exactly. Start the expedition or stick to the main story.
Maxed out gear will probably make the expedition easier/shorter, but doing the expedition will grants you bonuses that will ease your character progress. So both are good.
Also maxing out a character is a very steep slope; especially near the end when you search for max stat illegal modules, max stat starships and freighter, etc.... not that it's mandatory tho... it's just that's there's nothing better to do at some point....

Do the expedition. You have the experience and it is one of the easiest Expeditions ever released. I have done them all and this is the first time I was actually ever able to clear the board on the first phase before traveling to the second rendezvous point (secret fishing hole).

Some interloper cleared the entire expedition in a little over 5 hours so this is not a testy expedition. I have enjoyed the new fishing concept and so far no "got cha" moments where they pull a fast one.

the rewards really are pooh but at least you'll have them. At least you can look like scuba Steve whenever you want.

Little tip if you decide to start the expo via the Terminus...

Don't use the free inventory expansions you get as rewards...
When you go to claim them, just cancel out of the menu... you will then get the expansion modules instead. You can transfer these back to your main save via the Terminus when you end the expo.
Yes, you will have a less inventory space during the expo itself, but as it is just temporary, transferring them back to the main save is more valuable.
You can simply use the terminals on the space stations (and on the Anomaly once per system) and drop pods to expand your inventory during the expo.

Also, make sure you have the "message in a bottle" missions selected as your active mission when you are attempting them, otherwise you wont find the Angler's diary entries... Most missions will complete if you meet the requirements at all, but these ones require you to select the appropriate mission.
