Ship Summoning - blank or "ghost" ships
I searched for related topics, but didn't find any good hits.

Is anyone else experiencing / experienced a number of slots in your Ship Summoning Array (X, Q, F, ship icon, F) that are visually blank (no tiny ship picture), but they have a ship name label, and the named ship is summonable - BUT it is NOT a ship from your current playthrough?

Both I and a friend are experiencing this.

(It is like unlimited money and modules, but REALLY feels like "cheating".)

i would report this on the zendesk... it may be related to other ghost ship reports... eg: scrapping a ship may result in a ghost ship that can be scrapped over and over for some stuff but not all...

I have submitted Zendesk report.

Its an old bug which was partially fixed, it stems from scrapping ships, continuing to play, saving and at some point WITHOUT quitting NMS completely, reloading a prior restore point and bingo, instant ghost ships. Reported it last time and although they partly fixed it, its not completely fixed and HG aint realised it, no matter how much we tell them. Only useful trick with it is a money maker as an interceptor can be worth a lot and repeat scrap, save, load, scrap etc etc can make you rich quick.

OK. But why am I getting ghost ships that I absolutely HAVE NOT seen in this playthrough??

I have only harvested Interceptors on ONE planet (though it was a lot), and the ones I am seeing as ghosts are a different model altogether, not even close.

I am not as sure about the non-Interceptors, but I know that the name on a couple of the Explorer ghosts is NOT one I have seen among scrapouts in this playthrough, because I am -flying an Explorer and I have been focused on them. Haven't scrapped that many either, except one very distinct model.

Blank?
Never saw before?
But it's shows the name of the ship?
Sometimes I have these fathom ships .
Can you summon this ghost 👻?
If yes, then take a time and scrap it.
Unless you like what you see.

If it is a glitch, then scrapping the ghost is "cheating" on my personal honor and set of rules. It is an unearned benefit, due to no effort of mine within the actions I am allowed inside the gameplay. Sorry, I don't "save-scum", either.

My biggest problem is figuring how to get RID of them and free up the slots, WITHOUT benefiting from them. Especially the Interceptors.

BTW. I am doing quite well, thank you. I don't need either the ships or the money. The modules are tempting, but also the easiest to dispose of.

Scrap the ships for units and delete the parts it gives you. You don't actually get any units until you sell the parts. you may get some upgrades but you can just delete them from your inventory as well.

Ah. that is true, of course. I wasn't thinking clearly. still in shoock from seeing...well, NOT seeing...the extra ships.

If I extract components, can I just drop the ship components as well? I have not experimented with that.

As I said before, when you scrap a ship it gets removed from your ship inventory list, but if you save and reload while remaining in NMS, a random ghost ship replaces the ship(s) you had scrapped, only a complete exit of NMS seems to fix the issue. So for that, you would scrap ships, save, exit and reload NMS and then you should not get the ghost ships.

Agreed it feels like a cheat and personally I dont use it, sure I could but I know how to get quick interceptors and make 100mil in about half hour to an hour, fully legit. If you want to try and remove the ghost ships, scrap them again, destroy all the rewards from them, save, exit completely and reload NMS and see if the ghost ships stop, that way you dont gain and if it works right, no more ghost ship :)

A. I never save and reload without exiting.
B. I have not been having the problem for the last 70-100 hours or so in my last base system, only since I have moved several systems away following the Atlas Path.
C. Most of he ghost replicated ships are ships that I would have acquired in my 1st system, say, 120 hours ago...except for the two Interceptors and one other.
- The Interceptors, as far as I know, I have never seen before. I don't recall scrapping any Interceptors at all before my Flourishing Dissonant planet, 2 systems back, and those are a totally different pattern than these two "ghost" Interceptors.
- In addition, the one other "ghost" ships was an S-class duplicate of my current daily driver Explorer, which HAS to have been a clone of the COPY that I made coming back from Exp 14.

So it is a mish mash of very early scrapped ships, from 3 weeks play back, or more, and one ship I scrapped about 4 days ago, and 2 ships I don't recall ever having scrapped. And most of my most recently scrapped ships are NOT in the group.

It's a mystery. Well, they are all scrapped and gains dropped now. We will see if they recur when I start a new session shortly.

I asked about this same issue just the other day.

What i discovered is, the game lies to you about the money you get for these ghost ships - in reality you get ZERO.

You do get some equipment drops, but nothing important like augments, you will never get augments, so, all in all i would say they are not worth your time.

As I understand another workaround is just buy new ships and fill up all 12 slots.

@mystik:
I DID salvage them all and simply drop the proceeds.
AND ... I DID get 3 Storage Augmentations from the one S-class in the bunch, so you CAN get Augments.
I never sold back any of the scrap for units, so I don't know if that was "ghostly", but it certainly appeared normal in my Inventory. Also, I had no problem entering the ships, sitting in cockpit, reviewing the Cargo & Tech, etc.

@gh0stwizard:
In this playthrough, I ONLY deal in crashed / abandoned ships (at least until an irresistible Exotic comes along), so I have to keep as many slots as possible clear.

Just means I have to scrap-and-drop at the next Station stop whenever the "ghosts" show up. I'm gonna do the Expedition soon. I have some hopes that the Expedition return might clear the problem. I know that they are working on a fix in experimental. I'm old, I'm patient, I can deal.
