high temperature fish?
I guess I don't understand the definition of that term. I found a system with a suitable "scorched" planet, and it even had 210 bases already there, so I concluded this would be a successful place to find high temperature fish. After an hour of catching uncommon fish (over 15) my stats still say 0/7.

What am I missing? The planet is scorched. I'm here. I used 50% bait. What is the definition of "high temperature fish"?

Bad luck RNG. Keep trying. You will get them when the game decides to give them to you.

On the description of the fish it will tell you it can only be caught in a (details like temperature goes here). For hot ones, it's even in red print. If you don't see that then it wont qualify.
There might be a lot of bases because it is a rendezvous planet. Turn off MP just for drill. Are you in a deep water or deepish water site? More different fish there. Are you out on your skiff? Is it 50% bigger fish or rarer fish? Other than that maybe reload game and try somewhere else. At least you get nanites for throwing them back.

Are you using bait? RNG is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sometimes. I was very lucky and got legendarys without bait.

For the high temp fish I went back to the rendezvous 2 planet(pretty sure it was 2). Found deep water. I got the storm fish as a bonus in the process.

Not only high temp but Uncommon or above. So if you're only getting common fish, that could be why.

Thanks. I was beginning to suspect it was another time wasting RNG thing. I guess that's why I rarely enjoyed fishing IRL, for 69 years. My brain goes numb. Unless I REALLY needed the down time to sit and stare at water for awhile. Fishing sometimes is a lot like watching grass grow.

But, I started the Expedition challenge; I'll finish it. :)

catched it on a "boiling" planet

cook the fish you have and use it as bait

Thanks. I discovered that. Pickled fish gives 37% better size probability.
Also went to a deeper spot: >30 units.

My trouble wasn't finding hot planets, it was finding the water on those hot planets.

Hot biomes: scorched, charred, arid, hot, firey, boiling, high temperature, torrid, incandescent, or scalding.

Thank you very much Darknessanubis - for some reason I cannot answer to your comment) going back to the rendezvous 2 hot planet worked for me! It was also very easy getting 4 hot fishes that I had to get with the worm bait. Good luck everyone =D

definitely try different depths. i find vastly different fish at 50m or above (its shown where temperature is once you cast the lure)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

This even worked as only solution to the hot fish milestone in the Aquarius Redux expedition. I spent hours a) finding systems that match the hot water criteria shown in the info box, b) finding planets with water and c) not catching any suitable fish. Going back to meeting point 2 (where the systems in the redux expedition are differently named) worked out.
