Can't place Automated Trap - says it needs to be underwater; I am

It's all in the title. What am I doing wrong?

Am I supposed to build a platform under it or attach it to something or free float it? Is it supposed to be near my base or away from my underwater base?

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Nevermind - I was trying to install it down below. It needs to be constructed just under or at the surface.

I have needed the build cam to pull the camera far enough away to place them, if I want them near where my character is standing. its annoying.

Whenever I collect fish from the traps, it doesn’t count them towards the 13 I have to collect. Am I doing something wrong?

Catch a fish milestones require you to actually catch them with your pole.

Catch a fish milestones require you to actually catch them with your pole.

There is a specific milestone for trap fishing "The Lazy Fisherman" that requires 13 fish to be caught using the traps, and the trap counts DO actually progress other counts (like catch a Legendary, catch Colossal etc).
@splodem - sounds like a bug.

Thank you very much for this.. I was going a bit nuts trying to figure it out.. It should say "Must be constructed under surface" or something.

I think this issue rises when trying to deploy them in bodies of water near structure or surrounded by rocky environments. I placed a wooden platform slightly under the water, then I was able to place it.
