I don't ever want to see any such stupid message, what i want to see, is the game try to run, but fail and then give me the stupid message, because at least it tried right? And is it the end of the world that it failed to run? NO.
I first encountered this nonsense years with Alpha Centauri. At some point processors advanced beyond the capacity for the game to recognize, so guess what the game did? It refused to run, and refused to even try to run..... wow that peeved me off, i still remember it. Had to download a third party fix off the internet to get rid of the "wah, i dont want to run" message, and then the game ran just fine, go figure!
There are actually good reasons to not run on "unsupported" Windows versions.
I have no idea if any of them apply here with NMS; but as a general concept it can be legit.
For example, newer versions of Windows sometimes "deprecate" certain "old" API calls; and a program might require those calls - and be unable to run without them. Rather than trying to load, and "crashing", they stop-check and report to you the user that they cannot run due to the "unsupported" version.
I'll leave it at that - just letting you know (because you asked) there are legit reasons.
(Again, I don't know in this case - actually in most cases you won't know - unless you dig into the program and look-see).
Are all your friends on PC? Cause we're out of sync right now. PC got an update today(5.11) that no one else got and PC players can only play with PC players atm.
None of that is close to a reason not to even 'try' to run the game.... unless it could corrupt the OS or make your computer catch on fire, there really is no legitimate reason to not try to run the game.... and the worst thing that can happen is it crashes - SO WHAT? At least it tried rather than giving some absurd "whah, not even going to try Whah whah"
Or it could be just like the SMAC example i gave... there is something about your computer the game doesn't like or understand, however, if given the chance, it can run the game just fine anyway.
All I did, as Jefferson Airplane might say, was feed your head. Provided some info, as requested. Don't really feel like debating it (I don't even have a position on it of which to debate). :)
Do what you will with the info. I was just trying to answer the query; but I don't otherwise feel one way or another about it.
Cheers
