Hi,
Any tips on getting this milestone done?
I have been on Cayett Major for many long hours, trying every bait I can make and no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

Lost Angler's Rig, Spicy Chum, and Automated Traps if needed. RNG. Some get it on their 5th try and others hours in.

1. Bait for legendary.(Angler is a legendary octo)
2. Get in deep water I got em after 12 or so casts in 70u+ water he may drop in less but that's how I gottem.
3. I was also on the last planet we had to go to for the expedition when I caught em.

I got it in the end. I managed to pull all kinds of Legendary Fish until finally the Octopus turned up :)

I HAVE the feeling that its impossible to finish it myself now. I DELETE ALL older open bottles , so im keep fishing and in 3 hours i didnt get any bottle at all.
I think im doomed to loose this expedition now.....

I burned through over 3 sets of bait: ie: over 60 casts. Jsut goes to show, if there's and RNG, it's gonna hose me.

RNG is weird in this game. I got the final bottle on the 4th Planet of the Expedition and thought it was the one you were supposed to get there; I ended up warping back to the 4th leg of the expedition to draw up the "correct" one.

Near as I can tell for the bottles, I managed to fish them up in shallow waters, while I had more luck fishing up the Legendaries in deeper ocean.

Same here.

I suspect their "bait logic" is bugged, as I saw no discernible difference to using the specialized baits vs no bait at all.

I figured that fishing up bottles is litterally standing at the shore line and fish at shallow water.

I did the same as you except depth was 60u and i got it in like 10 casts max, can't remember exactly, perhaps even less.

Previously i was fishing without the legendary bait and on shallow waters for about 20 minutes and nothing.

It took me only 5 tries. Do note I explicitly picked the moment at night because of the message in the mission.

True, i forgot about the message after those 20 minutes of nothing lol i got the octopus during day

So I got it this way - I dropped three auto-fishers next to each other, deepish water on last rendevouz planet. Came back the next day and had it in there. I think when I opened them up to check it was night, but I have no idea if that's relevant.
