Fast way to find a scortched planet with an ocean?
Need to find one of these things with water. The name implies that this is impossible, but the damn expedition demands fish from such a planet...

Once again, it doesn't have to be "scorched." Any hot planet works. Any planet where the hazard is heat and the element available is phosphorous.

While this can work, getting uncommon heat fish during a storm is... annoying. I did eventually find one scorched planet. Still took 30 minutes to get 3...

It’s possible that fishing in deep water helps. I mean, it makes sense that it would, but I don’t know that this is true. I got my fish off the Eco Skiff in deep water.

It doesn't have to be "deep" but it probably helps (seems to be over 50U to satisfy the deep water criteria for the other milestone). As per my screens, I was doing it in 33U.

Don't need storms either. Only 1 of my 7 were caught during a storm. As stated, as long as the environment is depleting your heat hazard protection and there is Phosphorus on the planet, it should count. With the mission active in your log, the hints on the lower right of screen tell you point blank whether the system has a planet that qualifies.

And FWIW, with full visual effects on, I find cold storms the worst for fishing, really hard to see the line at all, let alone the tension and colour change indicating you've hooked something. Hot storms are easiest of the 4.

If its taking the heat protection then its a scorched planet type.

Not sure if you can see other people's bases, but I made a base specifically called "Hot Planet Fishing Outpost (exp 6)" if you need a spot to fish for hot dwelling fishies.

I had a tough time finding one too (I neglected to look at all the expedition objectives prior to heading out) and made that one to help other folks.

After finishing this damn thing, I think the main issue is that the games guidance doesnt consider ANY planet suitable, until you land on it. So its likely just a bug

It does, actually. The System I made my outpost on said "Suitable planet in system"; it just didn't specify *which* one (which I found funny since I was fishing on that planet when I noticed the note on my screen).

So you already landed on that planet... Which is exactly what I said

My bad (kinda). Missed what you mentioned in the second half. EDIT:

But I still stand by what I said-- it *does* say a suitable planet is in system. It's how I found the planet to build my outpost in the first place. iirc, it said suitable planet was IN system, but I had to scan each planet to figure out which one.

Anywho... It's not a point I mean to argue. It's a one off complaint that I completely understand, since I went through the same. But I do specifically remember punching my fist when I found the system with the hot planet, so... I don't know. Maybe there is a bug for some players, maybe it's a corner case.

In any case, I found one, I made a base on it for others to fish, happy gaming.

Sometimes I think I must be playing a different NMS...
As you enter the atmosphere of a planet (do not need to land)...
The mission tooltip changes from this

to this

Hey presto! It's a valid planet.

One of the RV systems, I think #3, has an appropriate planet. You'll know it's right when the bottom-screen prompt changes to say "locate a body of water" as smurfy's shot shows.

I just found out the hard way via "catalogue & guide > Wonders > Planet Records". From there I saw I had visited Annif R47 as the hottest temperature planet. Then I clicked on that planet and rightclick it so it takes me to the discoveries tab. From there I see the system name and I use the terminus to go there. Annif R47 wasn't the hottest apparently in that system, but I got on the correct planet afterwards.

At least you get to learn to use the catalogue & guide for this purpose.

Don't complicate things for yourself... the expo path leads you to a valid planet...

Rendezvous 2 has a hot planet you can fish on to complete that quest. Planet Odeg 89/A2.
