Fishing in a storm
Does anyone understand how to complete the quest fishing during a storm? I have been fishing for 3 hours EXACTLY DURING A STORM, but I still have 0/3. During a storm, you catch exactly the same fish as in normal weather, I don't understand anything...

It's a tough one... it seems that I am stuck at 1/3. No luck after done 10 storms.
For the time being, I just setup three fish traps and continue with other missions.

have you tried New Eithagi?
It's a frost planet in the same system(Biychiem) with Cayett Major.

I'm building a fishing base there and keep testing fishing during storm,
Magpulse Lure,
Depth around 40u~60u
I'm getting about 1.5 storm fish per storm averagely.

I have got around 15 storm fish here already.
there are more then 3 kinds of storm fish so far.
1 b class fish, 2 a class fish

While I was doing 100kg mission instead, I stumbled across an extreme weather planet. There I managed to catch a second one during extreme storm.
I did it with the bait for the storm fishes on the second rendezvous world (the firey one). Still took some time and the storm-related fish was always the same type, but luckily you don't need to catch more than three.

During phase 5
missions lead to system Biychiem, planet Cayett Major

I also try to fishing storm fish there for almost 3 hrs and get just 1 storm fish

Then I decide to try my luck somewhere else

I go New Eithagi at the same system.

1 storm, 3 Pale Snowtail, which count as storm fish, mission compelete.

This has been the best advice. Make sure you go to pretty deep water, 40u+ deep worked for me. Caught all three in 1 storm while using Magpulse Lure.
The deep water seems to be key for both Storm fish and Lunkers.
It was the last one I got done and fished in storms every chance I had. Went to another fiery planet and it finally worked. Definitely the hardest task of this expedition.
I went to the second mission system to fish for hot fish. Caught 2 storm fish during the time I was fishing for the hot fish. Planet was copper, no storm crystals. But it took me about 2 hours to caught the hot fish.

I was using the storm lures because I was lazy and had crafted a bunch that I no longer needed because I had already caught the storm fish earlier.
And use salty fingers as bait (from killing fish) and that helps.

Leave Cayett Major, and find a different stormy planet.
I had the same problem. Fishing for hours only to have one stormy catch.
Found a different planet and caught the other two in less than 10 minute.
In the Zodrapp-Yepp system, on the route from rendezvous 3 to 4, the planet Undrian is an extreme weather planet with frequent storms. I got three storm fish in less than 10 minutes (including some screenshot breaks because that planet looks amazing).

it's work. yep.
The problem is that such a planet needs to be found, and they are quite rare.

If you've not tried experimental, do so – problem may be fixed there. Two of the fixes from yesterday evening look like they may be relevant:
  • Improved the objective clarity of a number of expedition mission steps.
  • Adjusted the catch rates for certain mission-specific fishing items.

This mission is giving me a bit of a headache too, even though I'm playing after the patch. I suppose I just need to grind away and they'll show up eventually. By the way, love your user name, fellow dwarfer. I actually came across a system you discovered during the expedition, gave me a chuckle.

i hope you wiped up the mess...

Just place an underwater base, free place so that it is close to the surface.
You can then just sit there in safety and fish upwards in a storm.
Easy.
As for bait, just stick any 2 fish in the nutrition machine and it will give you storm bait.
I finished the expedition pre-patch 5.11, but getting everything except the storm fish was fairly straight forward.

My fairly obvious tips are...

Go to a planet of the right type.
Stick on the recommended bait, if there is one, they may be mentioned in the description of the task. Alternatively check the bait stats the extra information will say its good for storm, nocturnal and diurnal.

For a generic rarity. Find a deep bit of water 45u or more deep and fish with bait that increases the rarity. You seem to get rare fish more often in the deep spots.

For the deep sea fish and the special fish in phase 5 go for something 120u or more deep. They're a lot harder to find.

For the storm fish I caught mine where everyone else did by the looks of it New Eithagi again I looked for deep seas for this one.
