Any "must have" mods?
I'm looking for some QoL mods to assist my journey, I'm currently using an FOV mod because holy crap does default max FOV look and feel like dog water.

I did try to find if there was a mod that would auto sort my freighter storage containers into type of item, or a custom base blueprint that has the basics already in it so as long as I have the mats, it'll construct an entire basic base for the bare necessities. But no luck.

So just wondering if any of you guys use mods, and if so, which ones?

There is no sorting mod. I am a builder and I use a mod to help me do it, but this game doesn't have pre-built mods

If your here for coop or multiplayer and combat you are going to be disappointed, this is a casual sandbox game of massive exploration

NO LAG leaving planet is a must-have.
Playing vanilla is cool (except for VR, where some mods tweaks are used).

For FOV it's just a parameter in a setting file.
I use 10x cave and water spawn because HG doesn't seem to have a clue regarding species spawn and fun.
I use Faster Scanning because I like to scan a lot.
I use Faster Movement Speed because base speed is too slow.
I use Instant Text Display because the vanilla lines are way too slow.
I use AutoScanner Plus that greatly enchance the scanners and markers and makes exploration worth it again.
That's about all.
That aside the game has several glitches regarding catalogues and lore entries that I'm trying to fix myself, but perhaps they'll fix them one day...

black space for me is a must, I hate all that multi colored acid trippy space
Space is supposed to be black. I use black space and nebulae

Well, given that every patch and update tends to break most of them, I'm not sure it's worth it. I particularly like terrain and biome generation mods, but once they break, bases and settlements you built with the mod in place are now either 40 meters in the air, underwater, underground, or mysteriously existing in a point in space right in front of you that appears empty. Since different mods access different compilers I'm sure not every mod suffers this fate, but at the rate HG is now cranking out updates, the process of installing mods, enjoying briefly, breaking, waiting for mod creator update, re-installing, repeat repeat...I don't know. The tough thing is that the really good mods change the game in ways that are beautiful, or truly useful, etc., so going back to vanilla can be hard. Be warned. Mod withdrawal is a real thing.

there are tons of them

use the most popular tabs to see wot mods are most downloaded
b4 you decide on a particular mod always check the date it was last updated, the description and comments as to whether it has been updated for the current version of NMS.
also pay attention to the gamefiles each mod changes (usually noted on the description page) as mods that change the same gamefile(s) will have a conflict and won't play nice together unless you merge them (if you can't do it you'll have to chose one mod to use)

as to wots good, that depends on wot you want, i use somewhere around 200-250 mods in my usual load and yes lots of them break after an update but i can usually update them myself within a week of an update dropping

but wot Caisson says is true 'mod withdrawal' is a real thing and while i can and do play 'vanilla' when needed it's not my favourite way to play

'once you go mods, you don't wanna go back'
