How do you start or do the Aquarius thing? Is it a DLC?
I just saw this for the first time on steam and I have the base game, but I didn't see this part yet and was wondering how to start it thanks.

There's a console in the Anomoly, right behind the missions thing

Do I have to be a certain level? I'm doing campaign missions while i'm doing stuff.

you can do it with a fresh save from the start menu or from the terminal in the Anomaly with an existing save. If you start with an existing one you can allocate stuff to bring into the expedition but it's an otherwise enclosed experience until you either finish the expedition or the expedition time limit ends. Don't know how much time is left but it should say in the game start menu and I think dates were posted on the NMS site. Expeditions are sort of enclosed objective based playthroughs with several reward unlocks that you can claim on any and all saves, once per save, at the Quicksilver guy on the Anomaly. The Expedition terminal is just to that Quicksilver guy's left. Good luck!

Nope. You can do it whenever. You'll have to switch between expedition save and main save if you use that file.
EDIT: Didn't realize it ended. So yeah, can't do it.

FYI the Aquarius expedition ended yesterday. However, they often replay the expeditions from the current calendar year towards the end of the year.

There may be a new expedition coming soon, however.

Yep, as indicated by the Diligent DennisM, the expedition is now over. You cannot start it (through normal means) any longer. It ended yesterday.

Expeditions are always run as "limited time" experiences. They then (historically) re-run them as redux versions at the end of the year, but those too are limited time.
Keep your eyes on the Steam News (or twitter) for the game so you know when they start (and end) in the future.

FOMO is real.

there's only been a handful of rewards that I'd consider unique enough to have regret at missing, like the Normandy, the Leviathan, the Haunted frigate whose name escapes me, the Golden Vector, The Utopia Speeder, the Starborn Runner and the Iron Vulture. Oh and the Atlas Sceptre. Everything else is either non-necessary, not unique enough, or buyable with quicksilver anyways. BUT, the playthrough experience of expeditions is different enough to make for a fun change of pace and something new to do

OP may have dodged a bullet.

Based on the posts i was seeing about that expedition, i decided not to do it.

The problem with it is how thoroughly and comprehensively you are at the mercy of the RNG gods, and if they decide to give you a hard time, your doomed, and no amount of skill or ability will save you.

FYI, just in general RNG never misses an opportunity to let me know how much it hates me, so, that's the main reason i avoided doing that expedition, because i know the wrath of the RNG gods is in there waiting for me.

Not the OP, but for future reference, is it recommended that you use an existing save, on the theory that it's always better to "allocate stuff to bring into the expedition"? Will using a fresh save penalize your ability to finish the expedition?

It is greatly exaggrogated. I did expedition maybe 5 times. The trick seems to be to have the proper quest (and proper bait) selected when focusing on a specific fish. The only somewhat rare fish is storm one, but it is still easily doable. My last fish quest was always to catch 100 total.

The only thing i know that will be exaggerated is the efforts of the RNG to bend the odds backwards and sideways just to stiff me - i have seen it many times.

LOL, yah, me too.

Was crazy how long it took me to catch a single Legendary fish for that milestone. I was using the right bait, at first...for god-knows-how-many-casts.

I ended up eventually using not-quite-right-but-close-enough bait because it was too dam tedious to get the materials to make more of the right bait. I finally got it with the not-quite-right-but-close-enough bait.

You automatically complete that milestone with one of the previous. Spicy Chum is more than enough.

A bit off topic, but i remembered where i saw your account icon.... That's professor loser, who always loses to every other NPC race except that bigger looser Morgan (unless the player plays them).

FYI Alpha Centauri - best game EVER made.
