Just install new one the same way you did before? if you still have old multitool, you can swap to it via X menu, store manipulator technology from it to inventory, then apply to that new multitool.

Yeah, every time you collect another multitool it becomes the active multitool..... that's the sneaky one that always catches me out, even with over 900 hours on the game.... Ships operate on the same principal as well, you claim or by a ship, it becomes the active ship, but this is much less sneaky than the multitool, although i have from time to time ended up flying the wrong ship for exactly this same reason.

When you get the opportunity to claim a new multi-tool (or starship), you are given two options. You can either trade your active tool/ship or add the new one to your collection. If you have no space in your collection (i.e. you already have 6 tools or 12 starships) you will only be given the option to trade in.

If you picked the trade in option, your old tool will be gone. If you picked add to collection, the new one will become active and the old one can be accessed using the Utilities section of the quick menu [x].

Unwanted tools can be claimed and added to your collection and later scrapped for parts at the scrap terminal near Tethys in the Space Anomaly.
