I remember the times when it was just you and your ship trying to make it to the center it's turned into more than that with civilizations forming and the game evolving just never really thought that this game will eventually end

If they add proper mod support the game will live for many years after the end of developer support.
I doubt it.

Its else another expedition or cursed planets that will be worlds part 2. This time I am going to bank on worlds part 2 with the cursed sea planets and new purple star systems.

HG understood one clear thing (and many OPs didn't): If they stop dedicating themselves to updating NMS, then they finish their work: LNF will be lame at the start, many players will never accept it as a replacement for NMS. The problem is another: the quality of the NMS updates, but above all the resolution of many still bugs...

I doubt it is an all or nothing proposition. I see NMS having a very reduced update schedule once LNF becomes the main focus. How much effort it takes to sustain LNF and how well it does out of the gates will be a big factor. Only HG knows how much they are making off each update for NMS. But it seems clear that if LNF does not perform well out of the gates, they are not going to kill a known revenue stream to put all hands on deck to save a poor performer.

I think it will end up being a two popular games, with NMS seeing a more spartan update schedule and LNF seeing the most attention. It will really depend on how players adopt LNF. We know from experience, that something that sounds cool can be really not that fun once the actual product rolls out (Looking at you Starfield).

Very good points.

I think LNF will do well even if it is mostly a NMS reskin.

I could see them ramping down NMS updates over a few years. But eventually I expect the fee update model is going not drive enough sales to justify the expenses.

Maybe when the next gen of consoles come out they will soft reboot NMS with a paid DCL or remastered addition which will create a new game universe not limited by legacy hardware and start the process all over again. That is probably wishful thinking, I suspect at some point the developers will just want to move in to something else.

An angry-red face with a black bar and white grawlixes covering its mouth, indicating it's swearing or being vulgar. Grawlixes are typographical symbols (e.g., @#$%&!) representing swear words or obscenities. Often used to convey an outburst of anger, frustration, or rage.

Most platforms feature the same eyes as on their 😠 Angry Face and 😡 Enraged Face.

Face with Symbols on Mouth was approved as part of Unicode 10.0 in 2017 under the name "Serious Face with Symbols Covering Mouth" and added to Emoji 5.0 in 2017.

If this is what he update brings; probably Atlantid first, but would definitely try both on different saves. I do worry that choosing Atlantid might be what triggers the sentinel mass action though.
