Are capital freighters worth it over regular freighters?
I prefer the designs of regular freighters over capital freighters due to the more varied designs, but I know that capital freighters have added benefits. Are capital freighters worth it for the benefits?

What benefits are you referring to?

Capital freighters have no advantages over regular system freighters other than the fact that when you first get the freighter, capital freighters have more slots already unlocked. That's it.

So their only advantage is they save you a handful of cargo bulkheads. In the grand scheme of how many of those you need to unlock "all slots", that's pretty negligible.

More cargo and tech slots I think

oh lol, that..
I was starting to wonder what he was on about. I just stick with my pirate frigate S class with 4 square supercharged slots, don't see any reason what so ever to ever change.

To begin with sure, but they all have the same total when applying upgrades.

They look cool, I guess...

I prefer a freighter that has super easy access to the landing ports. I had a big A class capital freighter but the top deck had all sorts of towers and antennae stuff that made me do a hard turn as soon as I left the hanger bay. I found a small S class freighter that was very nice, totally open upper deck. It did have a lot less storage spaces than the A class but I soon opened up so many cargo spaces it didn't matter. By the time I earned enough salvaged frigate modules to open up the tech, I had plenty of cargo spaces as well.

Based on the models I tested, the system freighter actually had better overall stats vs capital or pirate. Supercharge layout, and how it is used makes a difference, but it only took me like 30 min to get a s class system, vs the hours it took to get venator style I wanted, or the dreadnaught which also took well over an hour. Still baffles me how they put in these awesome looking freighters, and make them weaker than a basic system one.

They aren't weaker, they have an identical range of possible bonus values. There is not, in fact, a seperation between the two in the game's tables at all. It's a single stat block for freighters, period, other than in the Inventory tables for starting slots.

The stats are a 'range' though, which means the seed determines the exact bonus. You just happen to find superior system vs. capital freighters in your small, anecdotal sample. That's called RNG, not the fact that one type is weaker.

Smaller freighters do not block the rear window of the hangar. That can be kinda nice when you summon your freighter and land, you can see your frigates warp in. Can be simpler to land on smaller Freighter, not get stuck inside the geometry, or bump into things... consideration in a PermaDeath game.

On the other hand, having YOUR monster freighter taking up half the sky on a planet is kinda nice too...

@Zoran, yep, there's some advantages to one over the other on the (mostly) aesthetic side. Like most of NMS, the players' personal preferences are basically the main deciding factor, rather than any inherent superiority of one over the other.

At one time, I always went for the Venator family of capital freighters specifically because of that view from the ground being so awesome. Now I always go for system freighter, mainly because they have more variety in available models and I got bored with always having Venators. It doesn't hurt that it is just simply faster (imo) to secure an s-class system freighter.

.... necro.... I would like to see them allow the system freighters come with higher slot counts as that's what drives me to the bigger freighters. I tend to use the slots for crafting and find the size handy for that, as well as appreciate more tech slots. It can take a long time to get enough bulkheads to get storage to be equivalent to an off-the-shelf bigger "capital" freighter. It's unfortunate because some of the system freighters do look cool but getting bulkheads is slow.
