Expedition / Phase 4: 4 eyes
I've been looking for these sea creatures for hours and I have no idea how to find them. I'm pretty sure I'm on the right planet, but I also went back to a planet in the first system which shows it has undersea terrors (I think that's the word) and couldn't find one there either.

Is there a trick only veterans would know? The second scan mode doesn't work, and the normal search for materials doesn't show anything but clams.

Quickest way would be to get lucky enough to get the hypnotic eyes as loot when doing the derelict freighter run you already have to do to get tainted metal. Some players were lucky enough to get all of the eyes they needed for the expedition that way. Totally RNG though...I got 0 on my derelict run.

Another option would be to unlock the nautilon exocraft and its sonar and use that to scan for Sunken Buildings. Every sunken building has two Abyssal horrors, so 2 nautilon scans is all it would take to complete the milestone.

A third option, and the way I did it, was to just use my visor when underwater to look for Abyssal horrors and go swimming for them. This is probably the most time-consuming way to go about doing it, but as someone who enjoys the whole planetary exploration side of the game, it's what I chose when the derelict failed to deliver for me.

Thank you. I don't mind doing the exploration part as I only really play during expeditions.

I have encountered something that looked like a sunken freighter - is this the sunken buildings you're talking about? I will look for those then ... or another derelict freighter. But freighters are scary because they have a tendency to become transparent for me. ;)

Sunken buildings are a lot like the "abandoned buildings" you can find on the surface (the ones that have the whispering eggs around them). Underwater, instead of whispering eggs they have the 2 Abyssal Horrors.

You can also find the Abyssal Horrors dotted around underwater not by any kind of POI, they do show up in the Visor. I think in the default game with the red "!" icon, but I could be remembering that wrong. it's been quite a few years since I played with the default scanner icons.

Ah, I'll look for those buildings then. Thanks.

I have played twice and gotten them on the very first planet.

There were a few hanging around by my base (Open for All). I just waded out a few feet and used the scanner to find them. I'm sure it worked using the yellow "move right/Left" scanner thing when I had the correct task active... although after the Freighter run I only needed to find one. Make sure you have the task highlighted and it should show them on scanner.

Select the milestone, enter the water and hold "F" - it literally guides you towards the nearest one. If there are no near ones, go to a different spot of water.

They have but one single requirement... be in water. They are on BOTH starting planets and numerous others as you progress thru the expedition.

Now, if you do have the milestone selected and you do not get the targeting function when activating your scanner while under water... well I guess you and Spockstoupe should play together as both your games are broken ;)

It didn't guide me there when I tried it yesterday. Maybe because I still have to kill 2 arachnids?

Make the milestone your active mission. Then go to a major body of water and look around. If the sensor sweep doesn't show a direction to go then you are in a planet that doesn't have them.

If they exist in your planet you should find one within a 1000 u. Collecting four should take less than 15 minutes. In general if it takes more than 20 minutes to complete a milestone your doing something wrong.

My Base Ancient Ruin 2 + Vault have some Eye fish very near.

I bought 2 of mine from the store, salvaged one before and hunted the last one.

As Lindy also mentioned, make sure that milestone is your active mission and no for this milestone it doesn't matter what others you have or have not completed.

I've already completed "Glassy Stare" so I'll use "In Deep Water" as an example

NMS is notorious for switching the active mission based on your surroundings and events happening near you.

True, which got me stuck on the 3rd portal not accepting blood. Once I went back in and, as Geldric said on another post, made damn sure it was the right mission selected, it worked fine.

There's no right planet, just pick one with deep water and swim around. Look for red icons on your scanner. Get one, and dupe it. Or keep getting more manually.
