The best you can do is save up to 8 exosuit techs, and 24 stacks of items. But only if you put them in the thingy at the anomaly that holds them, so if you did not do that and ended the expedition, its ALL lost forever
You can however save all of your ship and multitool techs and slot expansions from an expedition... but again, you need to do so before ending the expedition or you can kiss all that goodbye as well.
Edit: As far as i can remember, i do not think the game volunteers any of this information to players aside from buttons saying copy ship and copy multitool, but if you don't know what those are actually for, then its not much use to you i guess.... i only knew by reading peoples posts about it, the game itself told me nothing.
It is probably correct to assume that the OP started from the anomaly terminal, but that is still an assumption and if it's not the case any answer that assumes that is just going to further frustrate a person already experiencing some kind of game glitch. Makes it a good idea to spell out the distinction.
Then that would be a much better way of starting the game, since the starting character in the main game is WAY worse than the starting character you get in an expedition.... and by the time you finish the expedition, your character will have advanced much faster than in the standard start.... not to mention all the loot, if your allowed to keep any loot or tech??
I was going to say that i wish i knew this when i first started, but on reflection, as a totally green noob, i would never have been able to handle an expedition... (unless it was this current one, which seemed very noob friendly)
However if you want to play survival/permadeath and allow for the related achievements, then this method wont work...
But it's also worth noting that most noobs who start with an expo as their first experience seem to struggle to get their footing. It's more of a means for veteran players to get a head start in a new game...
If you started the expo via the terminus on the anomaly, then no, your expo character was deleted when you ended the expo at the terminus...
If you started it as a new save file from the main menu, then that's very odd and you should submit a report to HG, via:

I ended the expedition and got the rewards. But in my main save original character all my inventory in my exosuit has disappeared.
Also make sure it's not some strange scrolling issue where you simply scrolled all your stuff up and looking at the empty bottom half.
If you checked everything and your inventory indeed disappeared, you should submit a bug report and maybe email or send a request to the NMS support. Here is the contact page https://www.nomanssky.com/contact/
You can both see the help center where you can submit a ticket/request and an email.
Were you still in the Anomaly when you discovered everything was gone, or had you traveled to your base, maybe left the computer for a while, while the game was running, and then discovered it?
If the latter, you might have to look for the grave..
If the character dies, everything disappears, which you can then retrieve from your grave.
