Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you've experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We'll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and press "CHECK CODE", then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch 28/11
  • Fixed a rare issue which could cause ship inventories to become merged.
  • Optimised wind calculations.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause multiplayer connections to fail on PS4.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when running the PS4 version on PS5.
  • Fixed an issue which caused the application to lose focus on Mac which resulted in poor performance.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here on PC: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\ and here on mac: ~/Library/Application Support/HelloGames/NMS/

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

I know I have to use Zendesk, but heres a problem.
Multiplayer, my friend died in space her spaceship evaporated and copied the one I had, a sentinel. So she lost her rare ship to gain the one I had and now we can't get that ship back, any ideas?

without a manual backup of her save with that rare ship in it, no... if she can remember where she got it, she should be able to go back there and find another one...

was it only her ship that got overwritten by your ship or did she also get a copy of your inventory and/or tech?

Just had an issue on the switch at milestone 4 where examining atlas scepter crash/freeze before adding/rejecting. Also picked up an S class Sentinel pistol prior to milestone and after accepting the scepter (close game and restart it) the name of the pistol is Atlas Scepter :) the name of the "atlas scepter" is now Alexand-w and I have no idea where that came from.

yes, i've seen that defect... happened to me in Expedition 16: The Curse after i grabbed my Scepter from the QS guy in the Anomaly... i didn't have any crash but did note, at some point, that my weapons had swapped names... i had only the two weapons... i ended up fixing mine with a save editor to edit the raw JSON data... it involved moving text from a key one weapon's record to the same key in the other weapon's record... quite easy...

Hey I'm really glad to be finally using Cross-Save. I'm having a problem though. Currently the cross-save fails to load, saying "This save is from a more recent version of No Man's Sky, and cannot be loaded" This happens when I try to load my (experimental branch) PC save onto my PS5 or my Switch. It worked just a day or so back. Id this likely to happen often? Are there workarounds?

Wow, i had no clue that such a thing was required... i am guessing it has something to do with the direction plants and trees sway and bend in the wind? Or is it for tornadoes?

{an additional thought}

But you know what would be a cool effect to add into [some or all of the] extreme weather planets {only} "High Wind Warning"... during extreme storms, high winds could interact with flight path of spaceship when entering atmosphere and especially while maneuvering around near the planets surface.

Also during these storms, while on foot with High Wind Warning active, jetpack flight path gets altered/blown off course in the direction of wind travel.

Oh and also... add Wingsuits, Hangliders and Paragliders, these additions would be MASSIVELY FUN on "Extreme Wind Planets".

Of course, not knowing if everyone would like this added difficulty feature, simply add a switch in difficulty settings to reduce or turnoff this effect.

maybe because experimental saves are incompatible with consoles? and by maybe i mean they are incompatible. experimental saves will only work on steam

This is because the current Experimental is a newer version than Public 5.28. The version when this Experimental is released will probably be 5.29.

do you need a beginner's guide when you take a pail and shovel to the beach to play, dig, and make sandcastles and stuff? NMS is like that... a sandbox... half the fun is figuring things out...

with that said, maybe try lower difficulty levels before attempting harder ones? it is easy to die in the beginning when you are trying to figure things out...

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to everyone playing No Man’s Sky – Holiday 2024 Expeditions, especially those taking the time to report any issues they encounter via Zendesk or console crash reporting.

We are listening closely to your feedback, and have identified and resolved a number of issues. These fixes are included in patch 5.29, which is now live on Steam and will be coming to other platforms as soon as possible.



Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue which caused ship inventories to become merged.
Wind vertex optimisations.
Fixed a rare crash on PS4.
Fixed an issue that could cause multiplayer connections to fail on PS4.
Fixed a crash that could occur when running the PS4 version on PS5.
Fixed an issue which caused the application to lose focus on Mac which resulted in poor performance.


We will continue to release patches as issues are identified and resolved. If you experience any issues, let us know by submitting a bug report.

I have some issues to bring out that happen to me during gameplay, these were probably mentioned before:
- items disappear in freighter refiners sometimes, warping the freighter to other solar system seem to bring the items back. But still, annoying.
- sometimes when I'm on the planet, using my multitool, the multitool gets stuck on not being able to switch between weapons and stuff. I pres G on my keyboard, and nothing switches. So then I have to equip some other multitool, and switch back. Only then it starts working.
- the slow loading of terrain, when you move fast on the surface of a planet.
- ground and flora keeps spawning back on the inside of my base structures, so I have to use the terrain manipulator every time I want to move through some of my buildings.

I also have a suggestion :)
- for crafting/building items, would be a great option if we could just enter the number of items we want to craft/build, for example when I want to make 500 Glass, I have to push the D button 500x to make them. Or maybe just add auto raise the number when you hold the button.
