Airless planet Hell!
I have visited at least 20 systems of all types and no airless planet. The game is so cruel I finally found a life incompatible planet for it to be a low atmosphere planet!:steamfacepalm:

Is there actually any difference between airless and low-atmosphere planets beyond the name?
Low atmosphere counts as airless for photo missions, etc.

I was going to post the screenshot to prove it didn't work and I couldn't find the screenshot!:steamfacepalm: Loaded all back up went back again and got the milestone. Sometimes my fingers fool me

Any Dead Biome[nomanssky.fandom.com] planet will do fine for that milestone, yes, it doesn't need to be specifically named as "Airless".

I had a hell of a time finding one myself, though, even knowing that. I think it's the first time an expedition had that type of milestone where I didn't find a useable planet in one of the Rendezvous systems. Or Perhaps I just somehow missed it.

Regardless, I had to do 17 jumps before I finally found one. >.<

The game also went out of its way to troll me. There is overlap in the possible planet-type names of Dead and Barren (Desert) planets, and I found 4 systems with Desert planets that had names which could also be dead planets before ever finding a legit Dead planet. (The presence of Cactus gives it away without even needing to land, but it's still a troll move!)

When looking for that type of planet, I look at the planet's available resources from the system map. If it advertises harvestable plants, then it's not a dead planet.

Not true. I just landed on an Abandoned planet, which is classified as a Dead planet. Does not count.

Not all Abandoned Planets are Dead planets, that's a valid name for Barren planets as well.

I even specifically mentioned that name overlap in the post you quoted. Planets called "Desolate" are also not necessarily Dead, that too overlaps with Barren biome planets' potential names.

I intentionally didn't upgrade the hyperdrive range of my starter solar so had very short jump range (until I claimed the Interceptor anyway) and the start>rendezvous 1 took three jumps, and there was definitely nothing in those first three systems. I don't think you missed anything. I agree that it's unusual to not have one in the designated path, if not in one of the rendezvous systems themselves.

It was eventually the 2nd last thing I did (last one was the biscuits because you don't get the nutrient processor until finding the airless planet!) and took me at least 10 warps to find one.

Doesn't change the fact that I landed on a dead planet that didn't count.

Then either it was a bug, you did something wrong, or you're just mistaken.

I'm quite aware of what a dead planet is. My 'photo' was the lowest effort possible, but it was on a dead, abandoned planet. No joy.

Abandoned ≠ Dead

Dead
  • Terraforming Catastrophe
  • Dead
  • Empty
  • Desolate
  • Lifeless
  • Forsaken
  • Life-Incompatible
  • Low Atmosphere
  • Airless
  • Abandoned
Barren
  • Barren
  • Desert
  • Rocky
  • Bleak
  • Parched
  • Abandoned
  • Dusty
  • Desolate
  • Wind-swept
Abandoned (like Desolate) can be either Dead or Barren.

Just found a true airless planet. Same no effort 'photo'. Worked.

Glad that's the case for you, but plenty of us have done the milestone on Dead biome planets with other names. I've now done it twice, the first time it was a "Terra forming catastrophe", the second it was an "Empty". Like i said, any dead biome planet will work, assuming it's truly a dead biome planet.

If you experienced otherwise, you encountered a bug, did something wrong, or were mistaken.

Most likely scenario (from repeated personal experience, usually on Space Station Mission Agent photo missions):
Used Steam F12 instead of Left-Click take ingame photo

How I knew that's what I did. Looked at the screenshots - F12 has graphical AA and is sharp and Photo Mode is pixelated garbage.
Jaggid Edje Nov 28, 2024 @ 4:42pm
Yep, made that same mistake myself a few times. Just force of habit, because F12 is what I use for normal screenshot taking all the time.

I've also had it where a photo didn't count and I had to change the camera focus center and take it again. There's probably some arbitrary (and easy not to miss) requirement for a photo to be considered to qualify, similar to how reporting bases doesn't always work unless you have the base computer being reported in the frame.
