Exactly my experience, about a year ago, under 30fps on an RTX4080 in an empty room, plus three crashes in less than 10 minutes, just walking down a corridor. Before that it didn't even run. I was one of the original backers, so I tried it every couple of years. I complained on a forum and was told that "30fps is normal and "fine", nobody needs more than that".
Yeah, same type of people who think that 30fps is enough.
I tend to subscribe to the "best foot forward" sort of approach. Maybe the author was just kind of dense...but fighting and seeing the structures- in that order- might have been more compelling.
Not against that game, just realized it is a completely different game play/customer appreciation sort of dynamic. The things you would enjoy about that game are complete different than what attracts folks to this game.
They used to organize lavish real-life expos and conferences that probably cost more than what HG made on NMS so far. Not sure if they still do. Now, it's virtual ship expos where you can spend your money and proudly own a bunch of polygons and textures in an unfinished, unreleased game. This seems to be the core of the game: buying ships.
Apple and Oranges. Star Citizen is a MMO, that is making tech that will change how MMOS are made in the future. No Man Sky can't even do space battles right.
Come on now. Lets not compare the two.
I get that but the "new tech" doesn't even run properly on 13900K, RTX4080 and 64GB of RAM after 12 years in development. TWELVE YEARS! I woke up in a tiny, empty room with less than 30FPS at 1440p, I walked down the empty hallway to an elevator and it crashed three times before I made it to the elevator. Maybe it gets awesome after you get to the elevator but I quit by then.
And all they are focusing on is selling ships. At this point I consider it a complete scam.
Except you only know those two games. In this case, you are right of course.
No Mans Sky is still better.
They're both completely different games to begin with, and I like both equally
NMS is an arcadey resource gathering/crafting game, going into space is basically just a means to find the next place where you gather stuff, it's barely the main draw, ship handling and combat, quite honestly, suck.
SC is more of a space sim proper, and imo, in all of the parts that can be actually compared between both games, SC is vastly superior at:
- Combat (both in space and on foot)
- Ship handling
- Space travel overall
- Multiplayer Experience
Yeah it truly feels like a scam, specially with all the ridiculous ship sales and whatnot, plus it does run like ♥♥♥♥ and has several bugs.
But I only ever got a game package, payed less than 60 bucks, not a single penny more, and put many hundreds of hours in it so *shrugs*
It's very grindy, feels more like an MMO than anything else, but I love grinding then getting that new cool ship, then grinding some more and kitting it out with good stuff, plus being able to walk around your ship is pretty cool, and the detail is pretty awesome
I also like how involved everything is (as a SIM should be), you gotta take a tram to get to the space port, you gotta ask for take off clearance, ships have a ton of controls, and a bunch of other examples, mining for instance
Again, extremely silly comparison, completely different games, and anyone that appreciates "Space games" should be able to enjoy both equally
As for comparisons between the two games in terms of play and activity, outside of space genre, there's very little of merit comparatively, even if you ignore the checkered pasts of either game.
They're all "space games" but it's not a useful distinction. Star Citizen I wont touch because it's disgusting to me to see the amount off money they took in and what got produced, no matter how cool it looks, or well it works, or how well it runs (it doesn't) even if I bought a brand new PC I wouldn't be interested in trying it for reasons of principle; that's not normal for me, probably one of the only games I view that way.
I will say that NMS is FAR more pleasant, and peaceful, game. Other than the occasional bug, NMS is very laid back, easy to learn, hard to fail at, relaxed game - and PvP can be turned off.
None of that is true of my experiences in SC. I tried playing the limited version of SC last year. I loved the exceptional level of detail and realism that make for a very immersive experience; but then came the griefers. End of any thoughts that I could enjoy SC.
