Everyone plays together. I don't think NMS is available in China, but yes, they're foreign characters that your system doesn't recognize.

:steamthumbsup::steamthis:
but NMS is well available in China and I often see Chinese people in the anomaly for example.

Same goes for Russian, Japanese and Korean players etc.

Recent update note from Sean actually mentions the increasing popularity of NMS in China. Gotta keep up on the news.

I can see Russian letters but not the other two you listed. I believe it's related to the Unicode that is used for those other languages which is not (I'm totally guessing here) the same one used for english.

I also have "Translate Text" enabled, which so far, um does absolutely nothing

Put the "Fixed Font for No Man's Sky" PAK file (RobotoCJKSXCFontNMS.pak) in the No Man's Sky/PCBANKS/MODS folder and delete or rename the DISABLEMODS.TXT in the No Man's Sky/GameData/PcBanks folder

This is a bit of a guess, but it could be that your pc does not have the necessary language installed. Unless you are bilingual there is little reason to do so. Check the windows language settings, and if you wish maybe install Chinese, etc.

<edit> ahh I see Spocks' just answered - I'm too slow at typing... and guessed wrong :/

Um, yeah... no thanks I'l look at squares since I'd rather perform my own ROOT CANAL than deal with mods in NMS :steamsalty:

Did you read the recent announcement from NMS?
https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/11/cross-save-ps5-pro-normandy/
... In the intervening years since that event, we have welcomed a huge number of Travellers, not least a whole new cohort of Switch players and an increasingly large number of Chinese fans. Many of these new players have envied those who proudly displayed their Normandy in their frigate collection.

LOL, the pak file just contains the Font, that's it.
It doesn't modify anything, it just makes the font available for the game to use.

It's nice seeing the names of bases etc, rather than just an "X in the box"

♫♪ Step 1. Cut a hole in the box....♫♪

I do indeed understand that the font mod is benign and causes no conflicts... but unless something has fundamentally changed with NMS and modding....

You must do this:

and then NMS will WARN you

EVERY
SINGLE
TIME
YOU
LAUNCH
THE
GAME

Unless this doesn't happen anymore... does it still happen?

For me, there is a huge difference between games that "allow" modding (NMS is this type) and games that "support" modding <- Fallout 4 and Starfield along with Cyberpunk 2077 are these types of games.

You just get that warning and click on it. It's not an inconvenience

Yes, I do see Chinese people uploading screenshots with chinese menu an dialog. Funny to see. Also the translations of gifting items is sometimes hilarious.

Thanks - I have no qualms with anyone that uses mods in NMS(1). I'm fairly certain that I never will. For you "an inconvenience" for me "a deal breaker".

We are not the same :)

(1) What I DO take exception with is players that use mods, load up a new update from NMS and then post here asking for help with a problem... only to discover that said mod caused the problem.
