Expedition: Interstellar Rescue
Like an idiot, I started this quest near someone's base, so it gave me no marker for the stranded ship he wants me to check out. (I think there's some conflict between the crashed ship it wants you to find, and the fact that someone built a base near it.) So I just talk to him over and over, but get no marker for the ship.

How do you reset this quest? Is there some keyboard/mouse combination to do it?

There's not a specific crashed ship (with pilot) for the milestone, any you find will work. Use distress signal planetary charts or an exocraft scanner to get pointed to one.

Or look for bases at the teleporter with the milestone name or other descriptive name indicating there's one at the location. There were already quite a few there on the first day of the expedition.

OK, thanks. I just found a Signal Booster nearby, and when I used it, a crashed freighter icon came up. I guess that's it.

Crashed freighter is a different milestone, but if you haven't done that one yet you might as well visit.

Yeah, you're right. And when I went to that crashed freighter, even though it helped me with *that* milestone, I couldn't dig up any of the cargo pods with the terrain modifier, because a nearby base made the area uneditable!

Anyway, yeah, I think I'll just buy a planetary chart at the space station, since the stranded guy near the base is glitched.

Thanks for your help!

Expedition 2 (Redux 2) - Beachhead: FAQ and Tips and Hints
Phase 2
Milestone 2 - Interstellar Rescue & Milestone 5 - Fallen Giants: You get 5 planetary distress charts for creating the scanner room. Use these to locate the Distress Beacon varieties. Fly over the 1st one, if it is a normal claimable wreck, do not land, just keep triggering another map, until you get one with a NPC, and keep triggering to also get a Freighter crash site. Then you can land at them all to tick off these two milestones together.

Any...
Report the base (far right option on the Quick Menu when within a base boundary) and it disappears from your instance of the game, allowing digging.

For me, that doesn't work. The area still remains uneditable.

Same for me, but a save and reload fixes it so that I can edit. Assuming I reported all bases within the area.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Yeah, I did these out of order, so I didn't know that I'd get planetary maps for the previous quest. That's OK; the price was low!

I'm long gone from the planet, so I didn't report the base. I was able to use the planetary chart and do that quest pretty easily. So now I've done the 'stranded traveler' and 'crashed freighter' quests.

Yeah, it should also be noted that for the purposes of the Milestone, you don't actually need to loot/dig the Freighter crash site. Just interact with the beacon and you get it.

Yes, I couldn't dig anywhere, so I just blasted open a few doors above to get a couple of things, and then fled the scene.

I must say it's nice in this expedition to not have to make elixirs all the time and drink them to keep the demon squid away :-)

FYI: The current (10-11-2024) Nexus weekend event* IS rescue a stranded pilot and it DOES count towards the milestone.

* Provided your "Discovery Services" are working <- I had to relaunch the game to fix it.

I drank a total of one elixir for that purpose...
I either just ignored the squid and kept moving (they never once hit me while I was moving) or I just hopped into my ship and left the atmosphere and landed again to reset the meter....

Obviously had to drink that other elixirs for the portals though...

Yes, that's a good strategy. I was mainly talking about first half of my expedition experience, really. In the second half, I realized that hanging out in the Minotaur stopped the meter entirely.
