How can we tame these smaller flying Worms?

I saw people riding them but my google skills are not good enough i guess and i cant feed them the normal way it seems.

They are a reward from Expedition 4. Start an Explanation save and complete all milestones then you will get a worm egg that you can claim on any save.

the ones you've been seeing being ridden are likely from the Exp4 completion reward... you're given a worm egg to hatch for a companion if you complete everything in the expedition...

I just finished mine for almost 3 weeks now (i play on weekend).

I took my time with E4, 15 hours spread over 3 days.

Very quick here, I didn't check the hours but from memory I played an hour or so when it first popped up then completed it the next weekend. It's not difficult, just don't panic and don't get lost and confused.

Believe it or not, its really not that tedious so long as any of the gathering parts you dont constrain yourself to the one system.
I did mine in like 8 hours only because it took so long for me get eggs and fossils. Most of the quest requirements aren't an issue at all.

^This, but if you use google to figure out how to do certain things like the fossils part you can easily speed run this in a day. But like Varagonax stated some of the expedition requirements can get very boring, tiresome, and tedious.

Depends on how you want it and the other exclusive rewards. If you really dislike early game play and chasing milestones then you might want to skip Expeditions.

The reward consist of exclusive cosmetics for base & character stuff & 2 companion eggs (1 worm, 1 random i think?). If you don't care about stuff like that, i think you could skip this expedition.

I personally don't care about the disgusting cosmetics (especially the jetpack trail, absolute disgusting) & worm companion (flying ugly pet).. But the journey itself, i think it's quite fun and memorable, tons of players in every single system i went. i once saw a player getting ambushed by the big worm during fiery storm and he flung miles away into the distance lol.
