Best way to get silver?
I want a stupid amount of silver for farming. I can't seem to find a place to buy it. Is it ever sold in a station? If not is there a better way than an asteroid field?

refining aronium does the trick. You can find a ton of that at planetary resource depots (or whatever they're called) or craft it using parafinium and ionised cobalt (both can be farmed automatically with extractors)

Edit : also works with herox and dirty bronze

Yes you can find it sold on stations and ship crew when landed. Further you can find it on planets you can farm and/or dig up. Have fun!

Then you have to search for a moon with silver deposits. You have you scan for an A or S class one, setup base computer and place mining units and depots. Preferably scan fpr an energy source if one is nearby base.

You can get a ton of aronium, herox, and dirty bronze (and the equivalents for gold) by sending out frigate missions.

Not what you want to do to get silver NOW, but something to keep in mind if you're sending them out anyway.

i just shoot astroids. best way to get gold and silver fast. just flying around shooting them when i arrive in a system or at random space events, i pull 4-5k in like 10 minutes

Find a planet where the secondary mineral is silver. They are all over the place on any type of planet.

Or, mine floating crystals / buried minerals. Aronium, herox, and dirty bronze are refined into silver using your portable refiner. You can also find these three in planetary depots (4 silos guarded by sentinels).

All kinds of helpful stuff, thanks.

You COULD set up a Silver mineral extraction farm, but honestly it's just easier to refine Herox, Aronium, or Dirty Bronze down into Silver. Think you may need to purchase the recipes for each of those on the Anomaly with some nanites but it's worth unlocking all that if you're going to be doing advanced crafting anyways. You can either get those alloy metals from Glowing Minerals from Floating Crystals or Buried Minerals, or buy them in bulk from Trade Terminals which is what I do. Yes, they can cost a few million units, but look at it as an investment that helps you set things up that will net you a profit later

airless worlds are a good source of precious metals.

I couldn't refine wax and cobalt into silver. None of the aliens with a ship in station were selling Silver. I setup a drill which got me thinking, instead of making those globe flower things, would i be better off with a gold drill for making money?

For money I just find a couple of the new (crashed) ships to cash in on ;) :You wouldn't know this, as you're newer; however they nerfed the income from minerals and such that we can mine. Gold is still a decent setup to turn in for cash however ship farming can be fun and profitable. Of course i'm referring to the new sentinel ships however if you're starting a new game the normal crashed ship locations are epic for getting new tech unlocks.

As for finding silver, one of my more favorite ways to get the crops needed for the farming quest line is to go to a Trade station. I talk to each ship come in and they will usually have different items being sold. i stock up on all of the farm items then head back to base and nail out all of the farming missions I can. Silver is on sale from the ships in the trade post (and the space station) vary often. It's not static however so you may need to talk to multiple pilots.

Sooo, how do you find crashed ships? I'm guessing maps but which ones?

Um ... the easiest way, other than biting the bullet and cannon farming a LOT of asteroids, is to just find a desolate / airless planet with surface silver deposits. Many lush planets also have surface silver deposits.

Put 5 AMU's on one deposit, and manipulate the heck out of every other one you find.

Particularly, since, currently, there is a glitch in the Terrain Manipulator Restore setting which will replace all the mineral that you just mined out of a pit...for FREE, and without losing the amount that you already mined. Infinite surface mining in one spot.

Distress signals, but they won't always find one you can claim. The best way is to put a scanner on the nautilon, and scan fro them from there.

The easiest (laziest?) way is to use a large refiner to refine herox with it. All you need is ammonia, ionized cobalt, and a little bit of either silver/gold/platinum (20 silver, 10 gold, 5 plat). 150 ammonia, 150 ionized cobalt, and 100 of silver will give you 5 herox, which is 1250 silver. Ionized cobalt + oxygen gives you plenty of ionized cobalt. Ammonia you can get from either fungal mould + salt, or from nitrogen + di-hydrogen.

BTW kelp sac + frost crystal + condensed carbon gives you 10 oxygen. Why FC? Because it is the easiest to farm. Salt and nitrogen gives you kelp sac, and chlorine + oxygen is chlorine farm.
