What should i know about resetting the universe?
I've been playing in the same universe since 2018 and now its finally time to start over.

What should i know?
What should i take with me in my inventory?
What am i gonna lose?
Whats gonna need repair?
Which galaxy is your favorite to play in?

Thanks in advance fellow space explorers!

Make a base or visit the space station immediately in the new universe, so you don't end up teleporting back to the old one with no way back.

Swap to an old multitool and ship - all tech installed will break, be prepared to scrap them or have resources to repair. Pack up all your suit tech so it won't get broken, just leave the four core technology items installed.

If you are going by the galaxy core the ship you jump will need the chromatic drive upgrade - I just use the Indium one. I don't know whether that is required of you are dong The Purge mission.

Apart from the tech breaking that is still installed in suit/ship/multitool you will not lose anything.

If you have not yet done the living ship quest and think you might make sure to keep a base in Euclid to have an easy and reliable way back, one near a portal would be most helpful, but any will do.

I don't really have a favourite galaxy, but do spend most time in lush ones as I play to chill out, but I do like to mix it up and so also have bases in empty, harsh and normal galaxies.

3rd nothing
4th LITERALLY EVERYTHING (that is currently equipped)
5th Euclid (1st)

1st one depends
2nd one how?
3rd one everything
4th pulse engine, launch thruster
5th Euclid (1st)

What do you mean how? You can put stuff in your inventory when you reset the universe and you'll keep it.

The indium drive is not required for doing The Purge because you will reset the Atlas on foot and the game will automatically make you go to one of the 4 galaxies (Player's Choice) with the ending screen and all of that stuff

Nothing, really. You get to pick what KIND of universe you go to if you finish the Atlas Questline. It should be obvious what kind of universe you're going to get when the game asks you to choose.

EDIT: Make sure you visit at least one space station once you arrive at your new Galaxy. You don't want to go to a new Galaxy, go back to the old one, and have no way to go back to the new one without having to go to the center of the galaxy all over again, lol.

What should i take with me in my inventory?

Doesn't matter, everything comes with you. You might want to take some basic materials to repair basic technologies or repair kits, though.

What am i gonna lose?

Nothing (other than some stuff to repair). You can still teleport back to your bases, etc on the previous galaxy. Again: Make SURE you visit a space station first.

Whats gonna need repair?

IIRC, most of your technologies and their upgrades will be broken. You can avoid this by buying a cheap multi-tool and a cheap starship (if you still have your starter ship, use that).

It only breaks your CURRENTLY USED ship and tool. So take advantage of that. Swap to some cheap tool you don't care about that only has a mining beam and nothing else on it.

Your exosuit, however... you may wish to repackage all non-essential technologies and upgrades. It can't break if it ain't installed.

Which galaxy is your favorite to play in?

I like Eissentam. It's full of lush planets, many of which are beautiful and pleasant to stroll around on.

EDIT: DO NOT, whatever you do, bring a Sentinel Interceptor or a Sentinel Multitool with you when you change galaxies. You will absolutely hate yourself if you do, because that crap is hard AF and expensive to repair unless you got a million repair kits laying around.

If you don't have another ship and tool, you're going to be walking until you find a crashed ship because fixing the launch thrusters and pulse drive on an interceptor is 100% impossible (assuming no repair kits or materials brought with you) on any non-dissonant world, and if you have no other ship, well... you're marooned until you find a crashed ship, and if a sentinel multitool is the only multitool you have, then you're going to be walking until you find a Minor Settlement to buy a new tool, and if the planet you end up on is barren/deserted, well...

You're screwed. Entirely.

EDIT2: I suppose you could could find a sentinel pillar. Do those exist on deserted/dead planets? That might give you a multitool.

The "reset the universe" choice was nerfed ages ago. Not real consequences anymore.

There is no "reset" whatsoever, the story is missleading.

The end just takes you to an other galaxy (there are 256 of them in total) and breaks your multi tool and starship tech.

Everything (inventory, bases, ships, freighter etc) is intact, and you can travel to any galaxy, at any time.

"Universes" are effectively just different galaxies that are all always accessible. Nothing resets.
You can go straight to one of your bases on the new galaxy or your freighter straight up after ending up on the new galaxy. There is no "starting over".

It used to be, as there was no way to return, so all your bases were lost.
Unfortunately we all know how attached some people get to their bases, so it became a "choice" with no consequences.

Well in that case I don't see particular reasons to miss the old limitation.

You can always start an other save or delete your stuff yourself

i think you mean the same Galaxy? there's 255 of them in the NMS universe... i've played the entire story line and have never ""reset the entire universe""... there is also some confusion in this regard because some places call the Galaxy a "universe" instead of its proper name...

reading further in the topic, it looks like you are simply ready to go to another Galaxy by some means... i know of two methods and you can always return to the previous Galaxy by teleporting back to a Space Station or by teleporting to one of your existing bases... be sure to build a base in the new Galaxy, though, or you'll have to do the damaging jump all over again...

correct... they are special and require specific non-standard means of getting to them...

the 257th galaxy is just a clone of 256
