I always like more fauna.
I may not build a lot of fancy bases, but I still like the options. Maybe a whole different base tile set, if that makes sense. whether simply design-wise or it's for a new environment purpose.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure.
Multi-Biome Planets
Deep Sea and abyssal Biomes
Regional Storms instead of planet and system wide.
Oh, and completely out there: Small group dedicated co-op mode.
I had a look at the LNF trailer, its here > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKQem4Z6ioQ < . Ignoring the bunny people, and fantasy setting of that game 3 things stuck me.
Animals are much more detailed than in NMS.
Under water seascapes are more detailed
Mountains look more realistic.
The water and skys look very similar, though NMS has its various different hues for these.
Soo... Guess hat on. Update 2 will be seascapes, update 3 will be animals. Geography would be far more challenging due to the chance of burring a players base. Not impossible, a roughing algorithm run over high terrain would help and hopefully not cause too many headaches.
Otherwise, updating outposts and biomes would be pretty interesting
Developer hell: how to implement this if base building is fixed on Z plane and space can be any orientation. How to players move and react (also fixed on a Z plane when getting out of ship).
Easier addition: Add new base building structures and objects.
+1 for your wishful thinking. These are the features I would want too. Plus a hundred more animal parts added to the procgen asset bucket please.
Realistic expectation:
Some very surface-level tweaks. Rocks now have better wetness reflections in rain weather.
Maybe shuttles can finally be customised in the ship builder.
I'd like to see the Settlement system moved into Space. Let players refurbish "abandoned" space stations: this could become a huge endgame project for established players looking for a place to spend their millions of units and advanced buildable parts, like the Fusion Igniter / Stasis Device. (This is not on a World, so I don't expect it would happen in the current rounds of updates.)
Funny, most of powered lighting doesn't work out. I always ended up using those small ornament/wall/ceiling lamps because they tend to be more natural looking.
I'm kinda disapointed most of them are just retextured clouds
