Very annoying and inconsistent performance
I come to the forum to ask for help about performance. I have a quite good computer with, RTX 3050. 16GB RAM DDR4. Quite good CPU also. But this game has the worst consistency at the time of FPS I ever saw. In barren planets or space stations, with everything in standard (except plante quality, in ultra, water quality, in enhanced, textures, high and animation quality, high) and DLSS activated I'll get around 110fps, which is incredibly nice.
But the moment I enter in a planet with minimal variety in fauna and/or flora, it instantly stutters (which I understand, the game is loading stuff when entering a planet) but then if I try to move around by foot, collect resources or whatever, the game sometimes go down to 40fps, or stays borderline between 50-60FPS (very noticable difference when is bouncing from one number to another all the time). Is there a magic setting that I'm missing that is making my game run so bad that everyone disables and I just didn't figure it out? Or just an option that can help me improve my FPS while reatining some visual fidelity? Or just something in general that greatly improves performance, like a method or setting in general?I just look at the trailers and gameplays of people and everyone seems to be able to run this game +120FPS with textures very high without any problem, which I cannot comprehend. Any assistance would be appreciated.

(Before anyone says, I'm not complaing that my game is unplayable, because is totally playable. But I just wanna have a general more pleasent experience when playing, it really pulls you out from the inmersion when the performance falls down so bad sometimes. Also this tips may help someone with an actually bad setup trying to scourage some FPS from whatever setting possible)

With my previous system, turning on shader cache and setting it to 10gb in the nvidia driver solved a few performance issues in vr, that system was a 7700k with a 3070ti, 32 gig.

Maybe you have this set, i dont know, the sweetspot for the setting was and still is 10gb .

There is also a fix in the works for dlss, since its a bit buggy as of now.
Toy around with fsr and dlaa to see how that works to get an opinion on what works best for you till the fix comes and when it does, try again :)

It's not your computer fault tbh. They didn't have time to fix their huge amount of tris in objects, so that's why you are lagging when you are roaming around with lot of object in sight.

I already voiced this concern to them for years and they have yet to do something about this. Modders only added models for the worst industrial ones, which helps on industrial models but it still f-ed for other models.

DLSS and FSR is just coping with this as you have to render way more tris in a single view than an entire tris in a indie game scene.

So i'd suggest try to find some model replacement mods in nexusmods. It may helps a bit. Otherwise just blame their laziness to optimize their models.

Your computer really isnt "quite good", your computer is low end, like high side of low end..

try turning off low latency mode in nvidia control panel

this is just not true, I'm sorry to say. It's definetly not last tech but it can run 70-75% of games in high/ultra. I can play RDR2 in high without problem, any battlefield in ultra (except 2042 having horrible optimization even if it has worst graphics than the previous ones) at literally +90fps all the time. Not top tier elite computer, but a solid 75/100 in the queality scale. Totally enough to run No Man's Sky if you ask me, but apparently this game is very badly optimized.
Also I would not feel ashamed to have a bad computer, I started gaming with a horrendous PC that could barely run Killing Floor 1 and Black Ops 2 at best, but my computer not being good enough it's not the problem here.

Gonna second this. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the bottom tier of any series of GPU is never quite good unless you're playing at laughably low resolutions and certainly is never going to rate a 75/100 in terms of overall quality and especially not once it's a generation old.

probably your ram honestly my computer runs 32gb DDR5 at 5200mhz and i use around 20gb while in game

I find Tessellation above Standard hits performance hard.

then, again, we may have different perceptions of what low end is. For me very low end is only being able to play flash games and the occasional game released in 2008 or 2010, and when going to a game released around 2013 or something, having to change everything to low to make it even work. My graphics card it's not the last one, and the newer ones duplicate or triplicate my card's potency, but it's by far not bad. It runs any modern game in high and some in ultra, I can literally play any game I want, 50% of them in ultra, 70% of them in high. I feel my computer should by far run this game flawlessly. I run by far better graphic and more modern games without problem. Again then the problem may be the bad optimization of the game, because it's inimaginable that any other game released in the past 2 years runs without any problem in high but this game from 8 years ago stutters in medium settings.

What CPU do you have? I am on Ryzen 7 5700X, GForce RTX 3060 Super 12 G VRam and 16 G of 3200 DDR4. No problems at Ultra settings.
