I think you picked the wrong game for that. Go to the nexus/anomaly if you want to see other players (need to progress main story line to get access if you aren't already aware).

This isn't a mmo. If you want to find people, go to the anomaly.

There are a few systems where players have congregated and you would find a lot of bases, but as often as not, no one is home. It is an exploring game, not a hang out at home and bake cookies kind of game.

The multiplayer in this game is very simple so it is hard to actually build up a community. Outside of talking and maybe sharing some inventory items, there is no game play reason to pal up.

No, it definitely is an MMO. The universe is just so big that you're very unlikely to find people flying around outside a few established systems.

The game works through p2p with no central servers, there can't be more than 32 players per instance.
It's not a MMO.

No, it's not an MMO. It was never meant to be, it is not equipped to be, and it is not advertised to be an MMO . Its instancing does not allow more than 16 (at most) players in a system instance or location and its connection system is semi-P2P. It is a single player game with passive multiplayer tacked on after the fact.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Dirak.

Everytime they make a new dlc I start a new game.. so currently.. in my original system.. about to warp out for the first time.

Wait until the new expedition starts (~next week) because everbody will start at the same planet. But you have to make a new expedition character.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it probably is a duck.

Its a multiplayer game. No amount of denial will make that fact go away.

You can start expeditions from inside existing saves now.

You're exploring an entire galaxy, expect to spend 99% of your time alone. You can meet players in the Anomaly.

A multiplayer game =/= An MMO. Borderlands 1/2/3 are not MMOs. CS:GO is not an MMO. NMS is not an MMO.

you can bump into players randomly while exploring. It is rare, but it can happen.

Most players play with Multiplayer Off, as the MP On Anomaly is annoying, and running into random players in the world is usually undesirable, as they can take crashed ships, and other resources.
