EDIT: I take that back. SWTOR is worse. :p
He has a point.
On foot combat could use a major rework as well, and this is the sorta stuff they should focus on. Not prettier water.
I get it, it's an "exploration game", but face it - every game boils down to 'is it fun' ?
Walking sims get derision for good reason, and every successful game has some opposing force. Some combat. This game has combat, so just commit. Make it feel good.
I have always said, if this game had combat that felt even 30% as good as Destiny's, it would be way bigger.
If the planets had actual variety of things to do and discover, instead of the same list no matter what planet you stand on. If NPC's traversed the planet on foot, like you, exploring - and some were friendly and some were antagonistic, leading to emergent systems where you could be hunted by a gang, or a group of pirates try to rob you... etc etc etc.
This game just needs a lot of stuff it never seems to attempt. But instead we get next gen updates, reflections, fog and clouds. Water. Wind. Great, but the core experience is still kinda meh at the end of the day.
Most of the time when combat occur, players not going to be able to pay attention for popup messages or tips on how to deal with things. I missed most of them, plus i am hearing impaired.
Should be ingame wiki or something, also check your key mapping, so you will know what to do.
I would normally agree with and I'm usually disappointed by HGs cosmetic updates that have no substance, but this one is an engine overhaul with very significant technical changes that translate to big improvements for a sandbox game (much better render distance).
So I say they earned the right to limit the additions to ambient and visual changes this time.
It's the first time in years I'm excited for the future of NMS, I pretty much gave up about it years ago.
Now of course there's a chance it's the last substantial thing they will ever do to NMS, that would be quite sad now that the engine seems to allow for more exciting stuff. But eh.
Use s (reverse) to turn faster. Shoot in bursts and lead your target.
Seriously the single most brain dead fighting mechanic that has still not yet been fixed or changed.
All I want to do is have a classic aerial dog fight with anyone in this game, but there is no tactic that beats slow rolling backwards and holding down photon cannons in any ship, against any ship.
When fighting 9 enemies manually expect to go through a LOT of starship batteries fixing shields while enemies run circles around you - even in fully upgraded exotics etc.
....or hold S, press fire and win with zero effort.
Yea the optimisation is much improved. The initial loading screen before the menu doesn't stutter anymore. The slight stutter when entering or leaving a planet's atmosphere is still there though.
lol this is a pretty funny description of space combat.
And yea I don't particularly care about the space combat. Its more of an annoyance than anything else. Just a minor inconvenience on the way to my destination.
The freighter battles are pretty cool though. You get to do the trench run like Luke did in Star Wars.
Buy/Get Phase Beam
Hold S
press MB1
profit.
Combat loses it's 'fear factor' when just hitting the enemy keeps your shields charged.
Also when you have an upgraded minotaur.
