Experimental Branch 20/07
Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you've experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We'll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and press "CHECK CODE", then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch 21/07
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the player to become invisible when using the jetpack and Multi-Tool at the same time.

Experimental Branch 20/07
  • Fixed an issue that caused the player to be positioned 50m off the ground when riding some synthetic lifeforms.
  • Fixed an issue that caused all the trees on some lush planets to become giant corn stalks.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some planets to become infested, resulting in a loss of any settlements on that world, and in minor terrain shifts. The infested status of planets has been restored to how it was pre-Worlds. Newly infested planets will become un-infested, and previously infested planets will be restored as such.
  • Fixed an issue that caused foliage rendering to become corrupted.
  • Fixed a number of minor text issues.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the shop interface to fail to display correct in VR.
  • Fixed a crashed related to planetary rendering.
  • Fixed a rare rendering crash.
  • Fixed a rendering hang.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here on PC: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\ and here on mac: ~/Library/Application Support/HelloGames/NMS/

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

Make the direction of the HUD follow the direction of the head in VR. I want to play in 360 mode instead of 180. Tired of always tweaking the HUD with the controller stick because during the game and body rotation, the HUD often stays behind the player. It's very easy to do this function, why haven't you all been able to do it for so many years?

over 900 hours in VR and I don't even think about this. I sometimes play in hudless mode for increased immersion. Your suggestion is still a good one, but after all this time, I've stopped even thinking about itas an issue.
I've downloaded the new experimental patch, but my once paradise world is still an aggressive sentinel world.

Try adjusting the on-foot difficulty setting.
world part 2: more corn
good update tho, makes things look a lot nicer + some performance increases here and there

I like to play standing up and rotate around with my body, not with the controller. And that's why, since the VR version appeared, this is a problem for me. As for many who actively play other VR games and do not use sedentary mode. The most annoying thing is that it is very easy to fix these problems, but the developers seem to ignore them because the PSVR players are tied to a chair or the HG testers themselves play sitting down.

Or it may be that they can only suport one mode for VR as a small team/engine limitations and they have chosen the mode that is incluisve for disabled players?

Some of the buildings in my settlement have disappeared. And those that remained were randomly mixed up or replaced by other buildings.PLEASE return my settlement. Which I have been building from the very beginning. No update has spoiled it like that
Thanks for the VR shop fix, great work!

Thanks HG, you folks rock! :FH5Crown:

Thanks to all who reported bugs to Zendesk -- you rock, too! :claptrap:
Is DLSS Frame Gen broken for anyone else? It either crashes my game as soon as I enable it, or it doesn't seem to have any performance difference at all compared to normal DLSS.

This update has made a lot of our former Lush planets turn into Swamps, since for whatever reason, Swamp is a sub-biome of Lush, and for whatever reason, this update changed which planets get which sub-biomes. Also, some former Swamp planets that used to be Lush before Swamps came out, have turned back into Lush again.

So here is my request: please just remove the ugly Swamp biome entirely.

Swamp biome sucks. It has dumb-looking cut-off trees everywhere but does not have anything resembling an actual swamp (y'know, a large region where there is a couple of feet deep of water, with lots of floating plants etc.). Just remove the swamp biome until such time as you've had a chance to give it its own appropriate Swamp terrain and really give some proper variety for these planets, AND NO CUT OFF TREES ANYMORE.

What even are those cut-off trees, and why are the cut off? Why do their textures look so bad? Why do they not have foliage?
