The game has a story/tutorial, are you following it? It should last around 20-30 hours.

Keep following the quests until you unlock the anomaly. until then, youre loosely on rails but it vastly opens up at that point. Being confused is sort of part of the experience. its like minecraft in space, but with a very heavy emphasis on simply exploring the universe. After the anomaly, you pretty much have the freedom to do whatever you want. dog fight in space with pirates, build bases on different planets, be a space trucker and sell materials between different space stations, collect cool ships and multitools and fully upgrade them, or reach the center of the galaxy to visit a new one (theres 256 galaxies with different spawn weights for planet types on yellow stars).

Follow the tutorial. Prompts will appear in the lower right of your screen, telling you what to do next. Pay attention and do what it tells you to do. The game has a decent tutorial that bleeds into the main mission/story. Once you know what you're doing, then you can branch off and do whatever you want, but at first do what the game tells you to do. It's a sandbox game and it's deliberate that you aren't given a real idea of what's going on when you start as a brand-noob. You learn what's going on in terms of the backstory/lore as you play.

Go to menu and click on "Log". There you will find a list of missions that are available for you to do and how many of the tasks you have completed are checked in order to finish a mission. The current mission that is on is highlighted or by selecting a different one.

yes i do understand this concept it seems though that all the info it has given me so far wont stick in my lil peanut brain... because everything is so (different) i keep not understanding what im doing or if what i am doing is even what i am supposed to do. i am doing the quests but i feel like im losing track. (like mentally) i think this game is very good as a co op game! though me being a solo outcast goblin doesnt help...

The only thing that can confuse while you have fresh start:
- every time you select any quest in your log will prompt a small hint as soon as you close Log. It will be displayed for several seconds in the bottom right corner of the screen, and fade away. You need to be quick and notice it. It drastically improved your understanding of the game.

So basic tip. Not sure what to do?
Select a quest, and read a tip in the corner.

Then by all means, slow down and just enjoy the views!

travel to different planets and look for some cool scenery. scan plants minerals and animals as you go, looking for cool animals. you can craft pellets to feed animals and keep them as pets and even ride them!

if your (self imposed) object is to explore, youll end up using hyperdrive fuel as you go to new stars. so your objective then becomes gathering resources to make more fuel. then while visiting planets, you use pulse drive fuel and thruster fuel, so your objective changes to getting resources for those. oh no, your life support is low, so now your objective changes to collecting oxygen. Etc. Think small about what you need in the moment, and over time youll be able to form a bigger picture.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VYS23Lqtjw I find these two videos to explain the basics very well.

Maybe start a new save and do the quests up to the anomaly a second time to help you get familiar with the basics.
