Use less Starship Launch Fuel.
Mods would have nothing to do with this. I doubt that many, if any, of them have been updated yet and probably any related to planetary environments won't work/will crash the game unless/until they have been updated.
OP's "issue" is due to a universe reset for the planetary environment overhaul.
Nothing changed.
Update
Welp, just realised there is a major game update released 3hours ago. My be my hell hole will become more friendly...
Actually mods would have something to do with this, if they were using a planet generation mod, or some mod that messes with planet generation, and forgot about it.
Planet generation mods are like a cosmetic cover over what is actually there. The server sees what is actually there that you're walking through a swamp infested trudgery but your game tells you no actually you're walking through a beautiful paradise, with lush foliage, and that's what you see.
The moment a update like this drops, and that mod breaks. THere goes the illusion, now you're seeing what was actually there.
I'm convinced this is what happens to most of these people, because I have 4 saves that are 8+ years old, with bases that were built 5-9 years ago, at least 15 different ones on 15 different planets, and none of them, in all those years, through the multiple planet gen updates have ever been altered or changed in the slightest.
Nope. At least, not because someone forgot they were using mods. When a new major update hits, there's a file added that disables all mods that the player has installed. In order to use the mods again, the player must deliberately delete or rename this file. I routinely use about two dozen mods in this game, depending on the save, and this is how it is.
As I said, any mods related to planetary environment are likely not going to work (as in, will crash the game) unless/until they are updated. I had a look-see at Nexus, and saw, for instance, that for one of the folks who has lots of mods there, all but two or three of their 90-some mods are broken now. So, lots of updates are going to be needed before they will work again. That's probably true for pretty much all mods, especially if they have anything to do with planetary environments.
Sooo... that people seems shocked and surprised about their old saves might not be "optimal" right now amazes me.
But that's not what happened to all who had their planets change, and I would say not even the majority - not that many players actually use these mods.
My main base was on a Lush planet which is now classed as "Vapour", whatever that means - apparently some form of a toxic world (should rename it to "Twitter", come to think of it). I was not using environment mods, and since I last loaded into the game for the space station overhaul, I haven't been using any mods at all.
A base on a fiery planet that I had got an "upgrade" to even more fire + volcanoes. That and my homeworld are the only ones affected, the other planets haven't changed type. (But some have changed appearence a lot.) But it does happen, it's got nothing to do with mods.
This is an exploration game, just find a new planet.
