Is there a technical reason water is not deep?
I can stand on the edge of a cliff that is hundreds of feet down. Why is there no water that is at least 50 feet deep except for pockets that seem to be built specifically for POI placement? Time to purchase the landing on water tech for my spaceship. 'Dreams of the Deep' quest could be so good if the water allowed for actual ocean travel with the Nautilus.

I know it's not much better than 50, but the deepest I've found so far had a depth of ~90... and wasn't just pockets, it was mostly that deep.
Would love to see planets implemented with a depth of 1000 or more though, would make the nautilon useful for more than just locating submerged freighters...

I would love to see it as well. The Nautilus is a janky driving, horribly clumsy thing of a ride but if there was consistent deep water to navigate in, the Nautilus would be just fine.

Not going to happen in NMS, mountains are basically steep hills, and oceans are basically big lakes. For a realistically proportioned world, we will have to wait for Light No Fire.

(It is kind of funny though that NMS has hadal cores, but no hadal zones ;-) )

Yeah, I find some of the names for ocean related items a bit amusing too...
Abyssal Horror - The Abyss is from 4000m-6000m
Hadal Core - The Hadal Zone is from 6000m
None of the oceans ive come across in NMS even reach half the depth of the Sunlight Zone (0-200m)

haha, you snuck in there while I was verifying depths

The deeps is about 110 units which I think is closer to a meter than a foot.

The technical reason might have to do with planets being small (by planet standard). The largest planet is I think about 100 kms in diameter. This plus needing to have small island to land on makes making very deep oceans difficult.

Data miners have have unused assets that appear to be related to "deep sea" biomes and the introduction of the aqua jet ship tech suggest deeper oceans _MIGHT_ be coming in a future update (Worlds 2?).

With Worlds 1 we don't need islands to land on anymore...
Edit: I see you noted the existence of the aqua jet tech, but it feels like you are suggesting it hasn't been added yet

Imagine those worlds with amplified mountains only having the tips of the highest peaks poking out of the water and all the valleys are deep and dark water biomes.

Though some people may get upset when their bases are suddenly underwater.

Poorly worded on my part. The existence of aqua jets plus data mined assets strongly suggest o ran update is coming.

yeah, I hope you're right

Sadly, some people will be upset either way...

I really hate using the Nautilus, it look like that old early 1970s Norelco Electric Shaver that Santa would ride on in commercials for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Haha : ) I like it. It can be recoloured and decals added too.
This was my Nautilon base for a while.

It's fun to use the nautilon in wide deep sea caves and crash through the tunnels.
Upgrading and using the supercharge slots its really speedy in liquid oceans.

nice pics, but none of those are remotely deep enough oceans to meet our desires :P

I could care less about colour or decals when it drives like a lawnmower... in the ocean, even with S class engine tech upgrades.
I'm happy for you that you enjoy it, but I really don't.
And as we've been discussing, there are no deep oceans in NMS...

Are you saying my comment was 'shallow' and not enough 'depth' to my argument.
I think I'm 'sunk;... : D
