Anyway to automate hazard/life support refilling?
Is there a way to automate this? so when you hit below a percent you can set it can use a set item to restore it automatically? I play on survival, and use a mod to make it more difficult, so I have to refill my hazard protection about every 1 min 15s or so and this gets really annoying really quickly.

Not without mods anyway... and I've no personal experience with NMS mods...
You could get the some S class hazard protection modules though... you can have up to 3 for each hazard type... this should extend the time between recharges a decent bit... (they do clutter up the quick recharge menu though, so best to only have them installed if you need them at the time)

I got no problems with using a mod to do it if needed, as its a nice QoL feature I'd like the base game to have.

Yeah, I agree it would be a nice QoL feature...
I could see it working well as a (expensive) tech module, so early game still requires more hands on management.

If on mouse/keyboard you can map recharging liife support to a number key. Would not be the exact same thing as automation, but it probably would make life a lot more easy.

Oh I do that already, 1 is hazard protection, 2 is life support, 3 is multitool. 4 summons my ship.

not sure why someone would intentionally play a more difficult form of the game, then want to automate the solution to the actual challenge that comes from it. Then instead of the challenge being having to keep an eye on your hazard protection and life support, it's just making sure you don't run out of the recharge materials? I don't get it, but to each their own

This. First thing that popped into my mind. WUT? But yeah, to each their own.

Except its not really a challenge? and even automated I still need to have the materials to do so on me.

Yes, break your life support. Congrats, you now have infinite air.
I am never without sodium, sodium nitrate or ion batteries, cobalt and ferrite and always have a dedicated slot for each stack of those. Then it is a simple quick menu refill done in a flash.

You can also usefully set hotkeys for things in the Quick Menu for instant access for many functions or toggle. I prefer to play the game on controller connected to my PC and also indirectly have the hotkeys I want assigned to buttons on the controller.

I chose to double tap a shoulder button or long press a joystick click for various Quick Menu hotkey functions. Controller keys can be set in game with Steam Configuration but its best to make sure Steam is in Big Picture mode when setting up controller layouts. It's more reliable saving and recalling set ups when starting the game.

Worth pointing out is that not many players are aware that the blue red indicators on a character's back packs do actually indicate the levels of life support or shields. Quite fun when playing VR with a friends to point out their life support needs attention. : D

There's a setting to turn off the need for life support, or adjust it so it drains slower. There's also creative mode.

If you are going to automatically refill the protection, you might as well disable the environmental hazards entirely.

Best you can do is make keyboards specifically for recharging hazard/life support.

That would have been my first suggestion too but some people don't like using "cheats" even when it's a sandbox game and it solves their problem precisely

I don't agree, wanting the exosuit to auto consume resources so you don't have to micromanage is not the same as wanting hazards to have no impact on you whatsoever...
I can't say I'm bothered by having to refill my tech every few mins, but I can see why some people would be

There's already no impact really unless you play survival. You just carry thousands of sodium or oxygen in your pocket and then press a button every now and then to refill meters, the mechanic has no depth.
