Need advice getting salvaged frigate modules.
After like 6 hours searching I've gotten one.. I'm searching lots of crashed freighters, sending my frigates on lots of missions, basically doing the things I've read to do online and I'm getting them WAY TOO SLOWLY still!

One thing I haven't tried yet is searching cargo pods on freighters in pirate systems. I've heard mixed things about if this is still a legitimate thing or will damage your rep.

I got mine in a normal system just trolling the freighters and their escort ships. You only need one if you do the portable refiner duping trick. The game makes them so late to get the loop is useless for an expedition.

Several ways to get them if you are willing to wait. Guild station masters hand them out- for free if I remember right. Some of the station missions as a reward but you have to have very good rep with the race running the station. The derelict freighter missions and your frigate missions will include them rarely.

I got most of mine by attacking freighters in pirate systems. It does hurt rep, however you can easily get it back up by attacking the enemy pirates that are constantly warping in and getting their bounty.

I spent dozens of hours searching for these and the absolute best method is piracy. It doesn't necessarily have to be a pirate system, but if you hit the cargo pods there it's easier to deal with the reputation and aggro consequences.

Warp into a system, find the cluster of NPC ships that is either there just before you or seems to warp around just behind you. You know, the main and only ones. Fly up to the ones that have the roundish cargo pods all along the sides and hover your ship reticle over each one and it'll tell you if there's a module inside. Pew pew, auto-adds to your inventory, warp out.

It''s random though so you might go 10 systems without seeing one then you find 3 in a row and suddenly you've picked up 5 in less than a hour. All other methods are just as random, but without any easily repeatable method to the madness. This way is the mathematical quickest solution not taking the overall RNG into account.

I looked all around freighters and while they have lots of variety in the pods, there's NOT ONE frigate module so far...

I managed to get a huge number of them with something that could be considered an exploit, but really isn't since I had to play the game normally to meet the conditions. When you have enough reputation with the guilds, gained by making donations to the envoys in the space stations or by doing missions, you can pick up free or discounted items from the envoys. With enough rep, you can get the frigate modules, slot items for exosuit, starships, multitools, and freighters, plus a few other useful things. And you can make a circuit, going between the space stations that have the items you need in the Envoy's list and picking up one, then moving to the next station. When you go back to the first one, that envoy will be ready to give you another one

For example, kill a bunch of Sentinels, and you'll get things you can give to the Mercenaries guild, and then they'll give you inventory space for your Exosuit.

Pirate system freighter farming
Guild reward resetting

Those are the two best ways. Freighter farming will get you more secondary rewards (resources, units ala smuggling illegal goods that drop). Guild resetting requires either standard mission farming or redeeming enough items to get rep up first, but will primarily get you slot items, nanites and frigate upgrades.

Odd thought because I'm already upgrading everything else including Exosuit like crazy. The one thing I'm NOT upgrading is my freighter however due to not getting any upgrade modules even after doing everything including searching freighter cargo pods.

And it's pointless anyways. I mean.. nothing I can't live without so why make them so impossible to find? It actually seems broken how rare they are please someone confirm this.

I can just do it all in my starship but wow why make it ten thousand times harder to upgrade the stupid freighter with same stuff....

You get the frigate module from the engineering bay. There is exactly 1 per entire derelict freighter. It is by far the worst way to get them.

Engineering bay? Are you talking about the wrecked freighters on the surface or out in space? There's both. Also where is this engineering bay? Never seen anything like it. Wrecked freighters for me have several things: about 5 crates with radiation after you open them. And a central sphere thing that gives you some backstory. That's it. No frigate modules.

Derelict freighters are something you can pay for coordinates for from scrap dealers, or get a weekly coordinate from Helios on the anomaly from. They are fun little combat adventures primarily. If you haven't seen/completed the questline for them you probably have to do more warps or continue the main storyline (don't remember which triggers them.) You actually land on them and explore rooms on foot fighting aliens ala Alien/GTFO kind of thing.

Crashed freighters rarely have them yes but it's pure RNG iirc, not reliable at all.

So I need to do the story more for better loot? That's an angle I've thought about but never put in practice yet.

Yeah there are actually quite a few things in the game 'locked' behind completing the story or warping a number of times. Not sure exactly what the design philosophy was, probably not allowing the player immediate access to the 'best' stuff.

Right now I've got a list of twelve space stations where the guild envoy will give me a free frigate module each time I visit. And I can cycle through them until I have all I want. I've got twelve for ship inventory too, only three for freighter cargo slots, but the thing is it even works if you only have two. You just need to build up your rep with the respective guilds. And I was going to do that anyway, because in an open universe sometimes the missions give you something to do while you wait for the right inspiration to hit.

You can get them on missions and derelict freighters. If you toss your emergency beacon into your personal refiner before you go in, you don't have to keep buying the dang things.
