Stood on an abandoned building, popped an egg. Waited until there were a number of horrors and used the dread weapon of doom (plasma launcher).

I don't usually use that thing but it worked a treat. Then swapped to a less dangerous multitool. Paralysis mortar would be a lot safer but I didn't work that one out :).

SO you're the reason we can't drop a Save Point at certain Building because we get a "PERMISSION TO BUILD DENIED" message because you have a base computer inside the building.

I guess? Could be one of the 50 other base computers people have placed there.

I just got it trying for the 'kill 32 corrupt sentinels' one. Thing is, I'm not sure how. I was trying the plasma launcher and seemed to hit a few at a time but never four. However, after I beat the last wave, the success message came up to say I'd done it. I guess I must have at some point in the battle or a glitch made it count.

Like many ... the first thought that popped in my head was to use paralysis, but it did not work for me. I was fighting Sentinels and could easily see when 4 were hit at the same time, but alas it never worked after a few tried. I just convinced myself they must have wanted me to use the Plasma {as "Launcher" is used in the text if I recall} ... gulp ... but since the tech was given for free I just resumed killing Sentinels until it worked.

As above there were a lot easier ways ... like clustered horrors or fauna etc lol ... I admit to not even thinking about it. I always make these harder than they are lol.

I had a lot of trouble getting 4 biological horrors within the blast radius of the plasma launcher. Typically after they emerge they SPREAD OUT then orient themselves to you to spit or charge. Very rarely are there 4 together except at their initial eruption. I'm thinking it may be better to find an egg, place a base computer down and build containing walls so they can't spread out. Then once they are corralled, press the trigger.
when you reach point of interest, before you get close enough to trigger the horrors, look for the save point, this is where they will spawn in. Get your grenade ready, walk forward until you see the purple icons start appearing, and fire. The AoE damage will kill them even if they are still underground

This method works great with the neutron canon (though not for the quest) and is by far the easiest way to deal with the hoards, just shoot the ground where they spawn, and if you have the minotaur AI summoned, it will clear up any that escape and send them back to the kill zone
Note: if you trigger another wave from other actions then the spawn point may be somewhere else...

no point, they clip through walls

It works, they don't clip the walls. I just tried it and got the achievement. Build a boxed pen around a single egg, about a 3 by 3 panel enclosure, then make an elevated walkway on one side. Pop the egg, and they will all cluster inside the walled enclosure where one grenade should take out 5 or 6.

The only additional advice I would give is get at least one S-class upgrade mod for the plasma launcher. When I tried the plain vanilla plasma launcher, it took two hits just to kill one unless you get a head shot. Preferably, in addition to increased damage, the S-class mod should have increased area of effect, or range. For my try, I had three S-class mods, but I figure with an enclosure, I probably would only need one upgrade mod.

Another point that's confusing is the plasma launcher, (like the geology cannon and personal shield), are SECONDARY weapons. What that means is they are part of the main weapon you have selected, so they are not selected with the main gun-type selector key, which is used to switch between mining beam, terrain manipulator, bolt caster, blaze jav, etc.. Instead you press the middle mouse button (usually the wheel) to rotate between personal shield, plasma launcher, and geo cannon. They are the alternate fire for your main weapon. So to fire a grenade, you hit the right rather than left mouse key (if using a mouse) for alternate fire.

really, ok, fair enough... they clip through buildings in general, so figured it would be the same with base parts

I still think it's easier to just kill them as they spawn in

I got the mission done multiple times but it didn't pop for me until I got a different type of grenade. -_- Buggy.
The paralysis grenades do no damage, they just stop the target so you can use other weapons on it. Easy to miss which version you have enabled.

The problem is without an enclosure, they spread out fast, well beyond the range of one grenade. If you don't have a building to stand on, then you'll get a lot of splash damage yourself.

As I mentioned earlier, don't get close enough to trigger them to spawn until you have identified the spawn point (usually the save point). only approach when you know where to shoot...
and don't shoot at your own feet with a grenade :P

For the community quest kills, I get 50-70 kills per wave using neutron canon (you wont take any AoE damage yourself with that one) and shooting the ground where they spawn while my minotaur takes out any that escape... forcing them to respawn back in my kill zone... couldn't be easier

I assume this is a joke jab, but just in case: You only encounter a base if you happen to be online at the same time as the other person and they have uploaded it. You'd have to be playing at the exact same time as the person you're replying to for it to be their base specifically. In reality dozens upon dozens of people will be dropping bases there.

The problem is you only get one chance to identify the spawn point, so it's not particularly useful information, especially if you're just getting out of your space ship. I was already aware they spawned near the save point, but they didn't spawn from one spot that was small enough to target with a single grenade: it was all around the save point, a couple waves in fact. Consequently, that method only works occasionally since you only get one chance and no room to experiment since it's one and done. The enclosure method will work 100% of the time.

The spawn point is always the save point when you first approach the building...
If you're grenade is too small to hit the whole group, you could probably do with some tech modules to boost the radius
