Stuck on planet without ferrite dust
So, I had to do an emergency landing on a random planet and turns out it's a water planet with only tiny islands that are spread far apart. I've searched the surrounding sea floor but there is absolutely no ferrite what so ever. Any experience with a situation like this? Is there anything I can do..? I don't have a submarine btw.

Sigh.....

Every planet has ferrite dust,
look on the small islands... dry land always has ferrite around somewhere
Or you can refine some rusted metal if you have any

If you have a portable refiner you should be able to make ferrite dust from pure ferrite, paraffinium, pyrite, ammonia, uranium, dioxite, phosphorus or rusted metal.

Every single planet in the game has Ferrite Dust.

Have you scanned ALL of the minerals in the water, and absolutely none of them have Ferrite Dust?

Does anything down there have Pure Ferrite? If so, you could try building a base and get a trade terminal up (from which you can buy ferrite dust).

Otherwise, the only thing you can do is hit escape, go into Discoveries, and look at the planet you're on. It'll have a yellow arrow pointing to your current location. Look at the planet graphic and head do the nearest larger portion of land. It might take some time, but you CAN get there.

Or you can refine some rusted metal if you have any

Rusted Metal can usually be found in those big green boxes, and sometimes you'll see save points on those islands and they'll have boxes around that you can get rusted metal out of.

If you have a portable refiner you should be able to make ferrite dust from pure ferrite, paraffinium, pyrite, ammonia, uranium, dioxite, phosphorus or rusted metal.

Pure Ferrite does not refine into Ferrite Dust, it refines into Magnetised Ferrite (which itself refines back into Pure Ferrite) instead.

Also, if he doesn't have a personal refiner, and doesn't have a portable one on him, this will be impossible as he will need a metal plate to make one.

IIRC, some undersea minerals can sometimes have Paraffinium in them, so refining Paraffinium could be a way to get it if he does have a refiner.

I can't make a refiner since I don't have the required materials. I'm stuck on a tiny island with corrupted sentinels spawning in all the time and there's extreme radiation in both the air and water. I'm at the beginning of my game so I die easily. I'm pretty much ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

How did you even get there. I mean why?

But yeah, try a little more than start over.
Then don't do that anymore.
Refiners are portable. You can hold right stick to grab it.

Well, if you're at the beginning of the game, then starting over would not be much of a loss, you can always use the knowledge you gained to not make whatever mistakes lead to this, again.

Also, might I suggest starting a Custom difficulty especially if this is your first save, and turning off technology damage?

Having Technology Damage on can sometimes give BS difficulty and is not recommended for new players. Why they decided to put that in the "standard" difficulty is beyond me, because hoo boy having stuff randomly break on you is ridiculous. That's really something that is for advanced players.

EDIT: Also, if you're at the beginning of the game, you had to have made a portable refiner to even lift off the first planet in the first place...

Unless you skipped tutorial with the custom difficulty (Don't do this if you're new!) or you didn't pick up the refiner and take it with you (which you should ALWAYS do).

What would happen if he plain died there?
Main problem is the environment hazard.

Ok. Good luck.

Lol, I'm just playing the game, man :D How the hell would I know what to do. I'm a new player and I was being butt humped by space pirates. Oddly enough I didn't emergency land on an extremely irradiated planet just for the giggles.

I've only made refiners at my two bases and I just leave them there. Had no idea the game could actually block me from building one if I was unlucky enough. No hate on the game. I really like a tough game :) I'm just sad my journey has to start over. I think I'm 10 hours in. Bor 10 effective, mission clearing hours, granted, but..still... :'(

If you are close to the beginning and don't have the means to make a "portable" refiner (why'd you leave your trash behind, you litter bug :P), then it's likely faster to just start again than to swim across a toxic ocean to get to dry land...
Personally I'd enjoy the challenge, but I wouldn't blame you for restarting

If only I'd known.... :'( I'm just a stupid, little, newbie 🥹 Also, I'd die of the radiation before I reached an island. Believe me, I would have swam if it was possible.

Maybe someone could host a session and I could join..?

Yeah, that's quite unlucky.
A little later in the game you'll get a better option to the portable refiner, but I don't want to spoil it for you with specifics

Might not help you now, but another thing that you really should consider doing, is keeping a stock of basic elements on you at all times, for exactly reasons like these.

-Ferrite Dust
-Carbon
-Sodium
-Oxygen
-H2 (Dihydrogen)
-Chromatic Metal (I'll refine any Copper I find when I find it)

And on my Starship, I always keep...

-Tritium
-Uranium
-Gold
-Silver
-Platinum

Now, like I said, won't help you Now, but it's a learning experience...

I also like to keep Condensed Carbon on me, because I mine those little red crystals every chance I get and since I'm always picking them up anyhow, might as well keep some on me, same goes for Sodium Nitrate once you get the advanced mining beam.

Once I expand my suit inventory slots a bit, I'll add Pure Ferrite, Paraffinium, and Cobalt to that list.

Anytime I stop at a space station, or anywhere with a trade terminal, I will buy any of the above if they are offered until I have about 5000+ of them on me.

EDIT: And once you get another ship, I *always* keep the starter ship, because you can summon it (make sure you don't let its launch thrusters run out of fuel) in a pinch if you ever get stranded anywhere with a broken pulse engine or launch thrusters and can't lift off and aren't able to repair for whatever reason.

IN FACT, if you have another ship, you can maybe do that? Summon it to lift off?

You're 10 hours in, so surely you got the crashed ship that you always find during the tutorial quests?
