No, not really. The current expedition might very slightly approximate a diluted version of something kind of vaguely in the direction of sort-of hd2, but as a game NMS is an atmospheric, relaxed (usually ;-) ) exploration and survival sandbox space game with procedurally generated planets, and a low-key storyline that you can follow or ignore as you please. It is definitely not meant to be a shooter game, even though you can do a bit of shooting if you want to.

HG is pretty humble about giving out nods to good game concepts among other things. A lot of Monty Python type humor in the descriptions of fauna and flora. The whole simulation thing is current speculative science thought. The speeder just screams Star Wars...not to mention an agreed inclusion of the Normandy as a frigate. I just laughed out loud when a rock grew feet and scurried away. Not so amused a few updates later when the rock grew legs and started attacking me. They do like a good "WHAAAAT?" sort of trolling the player.

Thinking these nods mean more than just a courtesy to other developers is probably wishful thinking. The game is not likely to change radically.

FPS is just over repeated trash. You play one you played them all.

Helldriver may be the best of the lot but like I said it's a very low bar to beat.

Way too much to go into detail. Suffice it to say that Helldivers 2 was and still is a very popular game that is strongly based off of Starship Troopers. The point being you are a "Helldiver" Or a dropship trooper of sorts, going in to fight the bugs.
Extremely simplistic, but basic description.
The Liquidators expedition in No Man's Sky is loosely based on Starship Troopers, is a laid-back and entertaining gameplay stint around it, and that's it. Nothing in depth like Helldivers.
