I imagine the next update will be in a few months going by their usual pattern...
Im currently sitting waiting for the Satisfactory 1.0 update for similar reasons, actually.
You can always build bases up in the air. There is no structural support integrity in this game, you can have fancy bases that just "float" above the trees or in the sky. Although you might have to start with some walls on the ground to start a floor in the air to build off of. then delete the starting stilts
That way your base is very likely to be "safe" from most terrain changes, at least. But it won't help with biome/flora/scenery changes of course, if that is one's primary concern. But it's what I do and all of mine were fine structurally after Worlds, so far.
In this day and age of insta-patches (because, internet), a lot of games are never really finished. It just depends on the developer and how much they "move on" (like shifting focus to a new project). With HG tho, it would not surprise me, for example, if even after Light No fire is released, that very occasionally they might still do a big update on NMS to sort of showcase both games now and then.
Whatever the case, if building planet-side is your concern, you can still build if you want. Just don't attach any strong emotions to whatever you build, and accept the fact that you may be "wasting your time." (Even though just playing video games in general is the very quintessence of wasting time.) In fact, that's just good policy in general in this game. Because of the way the proc gen works, sometimes the universe needs to be reset/rerolled in order to change things, especially about planets. And it doesn't seem as if there are plans to ever end NMS. Which means that the universe is going to be reset every now and again. Which means that if you think you're building some kind of "forever home" on a planet in this game, think again and think really hard. If you can't handle change, build on a freighter. They are less likely to change, and you can do almost all of the things that you can do on planet-side bases on a freighter base.
I suppose after another 10-20 years they might finally never generation-tech update the game. Maybe. How old is Sean? Might be 40+ years. Hahaha. *wink
My guess is "part two" will drop after the current expedition finishes. Or it might be next summers update and we just see one or two small updates thus year.
Regards, now is a very good time to jump in. Join the expedition, kill some bugs, end up with a nicely upgraded character.
Just relax and it will happen when it happens.
Likely some behind-the scenes elements of #1 are requirements for #2.
There is even the possibility that we will see some other differently named update, BEFORE we see Worlds #2, if the reason for the partition was features of world proc gen that needed more work.
(Although the most likely reason for the partitioning was that the total download was larger than they were comfortable with for a single download.)
If you have limited data or bandwidth you might want to wait a while. Usually after a big update like this there are several large hot fixes. I know it sucks, but there is nothing we can do about it on the user end.
