How do I get Sodium Nitrate?
I have sodium but no Sodium Nitrate.
There is nothing in any of the menu screens that gives me an idea.

Either mine it direct from yellow spiky crystals in the environment, or refine it from sodium. You can get a better yield of sodium nitrate refining if you refine the sodium with oxygen.

When you scan the environment, sodium nitrate appears under the Na+ symbol, and plain sodium as Na. In general, the "+" sign is used in NMS to indicate more complex versions of the same base element. For example, Fe is the symbol for ferrite, and Pure Ferrite would be Fe+, and magnetized ferrite would be Fe++. The practical significance being in refining one might be able to convert from one to another through some refining process.

You can hop into water and look for vents. There you pick crystal sulfide off the vent. Those you can refine into sodium nitrate, 50 a pop.
Where do you refine?
Nothing in my inventory can create Sodium nitrate.

Alot of bouncing around the answer without telling me the answer.
Nice history lesson though.
TY,I think.

You go into the build menu and plop down a portable refiner.
Did you skip the tutorial? It's introduced there.

Press Z... if you don't have a "Refiner" there, then you probably need to make the base computer. That will open up the option to make a lot more stuff.
The Refiner requires carbon to run. If you put Sodium into that, it will turn it into Sodium Nitrate.
Also little tip... for some reason, I didn't realise till very late that you can make glass yourself by refining silica powder (obviously haha) and silica powder you can get once your multitool get the "Terrain Tool" addon. Simply point it at the ground a random place.
When on the surface of a planet bring up the build menu not sure which key it's Up on the D-Pad of my controller. From there make a Portable Refiner. Place the Sodium in the left most slot. Fuel with Carbon or Oxygen every 2 Sodium Makes 1 Sodium Nitrate

I forgot about that.
I am on a different planet and would n't even know how to find that refiner now sigh.
It's not one of those games you leave for a while and easily come back too.
You forget everything lol.

How do I build another refiner or should I just let this game go?
I think my mind is too small for this.

you can build as many portable refiners as you want... just make a new one
press up on the d-pad when on a planet to see your available builds

Those are precisely the two sources you will most likely find at the start of any game. The crystal sulphide method you will NOT likely encounter at the start of any game. If you are following the tutorial, it will tell you how to scan, ....press C. It causes your scanner to ID all the sources of sodium and sodium nitrate in the landscape. If you are not good at reading the instructions in the tutorial, then that might explain why you are still mystified by what is otherwise a very precise description of those two elemental compounds and where to find them.
Ok,up on the digital kp on the gamepad is wher eI should have looked.
Where can I find an antimatter housing?
Once again, nothing mentioned in the menus.
Walking blind.

all your known 'recipes' for builds can be viewed from the start menu
antimatter housing can be built in an empty inventory slot... it requires 30 oxygen and 50 ferrite dust

Refine everything you pick up to see what it changes into for a start - or look up the wiki for receipes and refining guides but that a kind of cheat.
Would love to see a info screen when pointing with a mouse in inventory that explains what is being refined from this resource.

No they aren't.
No anti matter housing listed.

I already did that.
Put everything into the refiner but no Antimatter Housing.
