i9 10900f , 3080 , 32go ram, all maxed except shadow is at high
No crash at this time
But judging by the speed of the hotfixes, it shouldn't be too long before it gets more optimization patches... hopefully lol
Every single time. There's probably two people on all of Steam who figure that's an important thing to mention. Maybe three.
Anyway, my res is 2560 X 1600, the recommended.
So many 'I have a beast of a machine. Why is this running so poorly' comments.
Also, as Masque mentioned, those with higher resolutions above a standard 1920x1080 also experience issues for the first couple of weeks.
I'm running 3060 Ti, i7-4790k, 32GB DDR3 -- at 1080p 60Hz.
After the update NMS reverted all my settings to medium, from all Ultra. My framerate was a lot worse. I looked at what the update did and noticed shadows had been made better, as well as color grading techniques -- so I lowered shadows to High and post-processing to High, and now I get 60 FPS, as solid an consistent (In other words, some stutters but not bad at all) as the last few years. Back to normal.
So shadows and post processing were improved -- and their settings should be lowered.
My inexpert advice may be completely anecdotal, but it's worth a try.
Turn off that Nvidia reflex latency setting, or whatever it's called. Some reporting having that on was causing problems for them. You can try turning it off via in-game, and/or also turn it off via nvidia's control panel.
Turn off DLSS/FR if you're using it - just use TAA or something as a test. Some (including me) feel like those might be causing inconsistent performance at the moment.
Restart game after changing to make sure they're really applying.
Like myself, OP doesn't have a beast of a machine -- just the GPU.
If they're using DDR3, like me, they've got an older gen processor. Mine's ancient, but still holds its own with most games, as it's still very highly rated.
Also, I couldn't imagine having the time -- let alone the knowledge -- to be able to figure out which graphics driver update to roll back to -- only to have to roll it back forward for other games in my library? Oh, no way. That sounds like hell to me.
Set Nvidia Low Latency mode for the game in Nvidia control panel to "Enabled".
If it is set to "Disabled", or "Ultra", the GPU is only used at around 60%.
And set in game setting reflex mode to "On".
Hope this helps.
I understand, Masque, I'm not putting the blame on anyone. It certainly is something that one would think Hello Games would look into as it does seem to effect Nvidia more.
As CatPerson mentioned, the following was found in a previous NMS post regarding the Low Latency Mode and how to change settings:
To enable or disable NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency in games like No Man’s Sky (NMS), follow these steps:
Open NVIDIA Control Panel: Right-click on your desktop and select “NVIDIA Control Panel.”
Manage 3D Settings: In the control panel, go to “Manage 3D settings.”
Low Latency Mode: Set the “Low Latency Mode” to either “On," "Ultra," or "Off."
Jofbig -- "turn on reflex mode"
OP --
It's just dependent on specific machines sometimes. Or specific to certain games. Or whatever else.
I turned that off and I still get 100% GPU usage - but ... I don't have a 40xx card, or current gen processor etc. Still on 2080ti/9900k.
The App recommends everything Ultra, instead of my three High settings (Volumetrics, Post Processing, and Shadows). But my experience after the update has proven that I get like 30 FPS when those are also set to Ultra. I'm sticking with my settings.
I doubt, though, that the NVidia App is dynamic. That is, I think their recommendations are set in stone, drawn from a database, for a game, despite updates to the game. These recommendations may have been good ones before this update jacked up the color grading, clouds, and shadows -- which are all three of those settings.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the App using a database.
