End of Expedition item transfer confusion
Hi all! I have never done an expedition before and boy do they not really explain much for nubs like me, so I thought I would throw out a question to see if any of you can help. I have looked and looked on my own to no avail.

(For context I did not start a new file so the whole thing was started through the Anomaly terminal on my only save.)

I am curious about how storage items work with ending the Expedition.

** If I put a portable nutrient processor in one of my 24 transfer spots - does the inventory inside it also transfer over?

** If I make a base and I build a storage cube on it and fill it up - are those items safe or is it just the base location/base computer that is saved?

I feel like if you could just do that it would be a no brainer to just make a base with storage instantly for every expedition, and there would be really no need for the transfer option in the kiosk. Buuut they are so vague with a lot of their language that I feel like it would be a gamble to try it without at least asking someone first.

Thank you in advance for taking any time to respond!! <3

As far as I know nothing listed above will work.
30 items, 20 technology modules, 1 last used ship (no cargo, no mods), 1 last used multitool (no mods).
Freighter, words, learned technologies will be lost...

The inventory inside portable nutrient processor will NOT transfer over.
The inventory inside storage cube will NOT transfer over.

You must use the Expedition Terminal to transfer items, only Tech Items in your Backpack, Ship, Freighter, Storage can be put in upper Technology Slots, the bottom slots are reserved for Cargo Items (Resources and the like) and will only hold Cargo items.

The only inventory items that transfer are the ones in the machine. Everything else is calculated into your final score, so it's not a total loss. There is no way to cheat the system. If you're going to do that kind of thing, there are ways of doing it far less complicated than exiting the expedition.

That said, make sure you pack up your new Minotaur parts and bring those with you, there is a bug and you will NOT have access to them on your main save. It might get fixed, but for the moment, this is the only way around the bug.

Your bases will transfer and you get to copy the multitool and ship you leave with(just like you did when you started).

Everything else will be junked and you will be awarded units or nanites as compensation. Freighter, fleet, squadron, settlement, purchased tech, all inventory items, etc... all converted into nanites or units. and quicksilver is transferred directly.

Thank you all for the helpful responses! I wish they were more clear on these things.

I def have probably put too much time and effort in the expedition where I think at this point its quite a bit more advanced than my main save so I am probably too attached to the things I have gathered. I want to bring it allllllll.

THANKS AGAIN!

ok so 1 WHEN YOU END the expedition it will say ALL items outside your selected transferred Loot (what you place in technology & inventory slots to be taken with you) will be sold for Units/Nanites/Quicksilver if possible.

This means if you have for example alien abomination eggs they'll sell for their value in Units before their crafting value in nanites however have some Tech mods you don't want they'll sell for Nanites before units.

as for the portable Nutrient refiner no idea since I don't cook with that too often.

I can say best loots to take from an expedition are:

-- Slot augmentations (whenever you get the option to expand your inventory slots, Ship inventory slots or Miltitool slots as clear expedition mile stones DON'T just exit & you'll have some slot augmentations you can transfer to your main save)
-- Abomination eggs as they are worth more to refine into nanites for the main save than to leave in the expedition for Units in the cash out
-- Sentinel Glass as again this is worth more on the main save than the glass' units price or the Nanites reward from opening them in the expedition.
-- Atlantium, this is hard to find in the primary save so a source of it is really helpful. OR can be refined into much pugnium & then inter many nanites.
-- Unique techs, Just uninstall them & place them in the tech transfer slots, Like that one expedition with the Freighter worm hole drive.

this is at least my list & ad expedition end I'll normally make a HUGE number of Activated Indium mines & just fill the base cargo holds with that as its all sold for top market price
on cash out.

just a note the Freighter will be cashed out for its units as well as a small nanites & quicksilver reward for finding one this reward is also better if your free freighter was high class so a free S class would be your best reward here, so its not a wast as its just free money on the cash out.

Will the tech on your MT be copied over or will you lose it all?

I am ASSUMING that it will come out with anything you added seeing that when I paid nanites to import my MT from my main save it came with everything I have added/changed on it. So my guess is its the same in reverse. But I know nothing so take it with a grain of salt hahaha

All very helpful. Thank you. I am realizing I know little to nothing about this game despite how many hours I have put into it. smh.

All the tech on your MT and Starship will be copied over, I can confirm. In both directions -- from Normal to Expedition and from Expedition to Normal. I used my fully-kitted-out Starborn Runner for this expedition, instead of the ungainly freighter it stuck me with. I bought back my fully-upgraded Sentinel MT from the expedition, and I'm using it now, in Normal.

I have had one base carry over from one of the expeditions I did. The base would not set a pic and would no upload, but I could travel there and use it. It was weird. Only ever had the one base come over, since the new mechanic ~3 expeditions ago. This was on my Perma Death save, if that matters (It could, maybe the PD server is shared with the expeditions or something. IDK.)

You can transfer items multiple times just save prior to moving back to your main save.
Then back to main save after transferring go back to the ship and jump in and out.
Go back to the terminal and click return to expedition. Just do not hit end expedition until you have transferred the items you want to.

What do you mean? There's no option to transfer items back to main save from the expedition unless you choose End Expedition.
