Storms, A tip
I was looking for info on storms and see a lot of complaining about them breaking the game or being anti fun to have to hide underground or fly away.
I think you guys are missing some valuable info. Storms boost your character in several ways.

Blizzard: Mining beam runs longer (heat)
Firestorm: Near infinite jetpack. Combine with melee pack boosting and you can go for miles. You are Ironman.
Rad storm: Increased terrain mining yield...like by a lot!
Toxic storm: Longer sprint duration....meh

Thanks for the info, I never noticed anything but the jetpack boost myself but figured there must be some kind of benefits to the other storms too.
With 2 core mining beam modules on my Atlas Scepter I already have crazy slow overheat on my mining beam, so no surprise I never noticed that one. And who bothers to run when you can melee boost, eh.

I think the complaints are mostly related to the lightning storms, which can do a lot of damage if they hit you... even in a vehicle

Cool info, never noticed that stuff when I was in a storm. I was mainly doing hit and run and hide mining or running like a madman until I had to refill my protective gear instantly. Now, I have all the elements covered with multiple modules, so I can last awhile. I kind of like the storms. A bit annoying when you're flying blind but hey, it's a challenge, right?

I almost had heart attack when I got caught up in a windstorm/tornado. That is quite the "experience" the 1st time it happens. Still is actually.

Those are good tips. I wish these storms had more long and short term effects. Both positive and negative. Including even damaging your ship.

Storms are also pretty much a non-issue if you drive around in them in an upgraded exocraft. You can make them immune to all environmental conditions and can recharge your suit inside them after going out to quickly collect something.

Didn't notice that about the Rad storm boost.

I personally enjoy the storms. Looks awesome and I can travel faster on foot. You can get tech that will prevent the rapid drain of your main resist for a good while. They are like shields for each resist type. Just takes up a slot for each type of resist. Those let you last in storms no problem. They eat charge rapidly, great for storms though.

A Storm on a dissonant Planet where everything floats upwards lets you fly SUPER HIGH with your jet pack.

Even without any upgrades the Exocraft slows the shield loss from 3 arrow pips to 1 pip. In permadeath I get a Nomad as soon as I can.

Stack up on the duct tapes , ladies and gentlemen. 🤔😀

I had no clue about the last 2, thanks for sharing

I like the storms, they add a little tension and verisimilitude.

I like to find an extreme storm planet with Storm Crystals and also with dino bones.

When in midgame, with a decent inventory size for ship and backpack, I jetpack around the planet looking for purple and yellow bones, and when the storm starts, switch to jetpacking for as many crystals like I'm a contestant on one of those timed shopping spree game shows. :steamhappy:

Summon the starship and load it up, then go back to do it again, until all inventories are full. Sometimes I even find a Trade Network ball or a Small Settlement to sell it all without even leaving the planet.

Tip -- I carry gigantic stacks (in Normal, 9999) of Ferrite Dust and of Cobalt, to make ion batteries for my hazard protection recharge needs.

Sad: they made it way more difficult to SEE the Storm Crystals with the Worlds pt. 1 update -- you used to be able to see them glowing like 500+u away. The new effects are very obscuring, so I have to rely on scanner markers instead.

Lightning storms are not the only thing that can hit you, there's also Meteor Storms and Cyclones. Cyclones are dealt with by having good mods on your Jetpack (or knowing when to time your jetpack thrust before you hit the ground), For the Meteor Storms? Just dig underground and wait them out.

I like the challenge of storms early game. Now I like to run around in them and feel tough.

Gotta ask though, what's a melee boost? I usually just run around because the jet pack has too much 'up' and exocrafts break things.

I've never had a meteor land anywhere near me before... and I've only encountered a cyclone once in over 1000hrs... I jumped into it on purpose several times XD
Lightning on the other hand, always feels like it's targeting me and requires me to dodge around to avoid being hit (though it honestly isn't that hard to avoid them given the hitbox flashes on the ground beforehand)

If you time a melee attack (RB on controller) just before you hit jetpack boost, the forward movement of the melee attack will be added to your boost speed, massively increasing your overall speed. It's both easier and faster than rocket boots once you get used to the timing
