Expanding the Base mission impossible?
So I've recently started getting back into this game and I've hit a brick wall on the "Expanding the Base" mission. It's telling me to go to a space station to find an overseer for my base, but when I go to a space station, it leaves the mission marker at the entrance of the station, and there is no overseer gek to be found in the station. Is this a known bug? Is this because of the new update? What do I do??

It is a (relatively) new bug, but you can still find and hire an overseer. Talk to all the Gek who are wandering around the station to see if any can be hired. If there are none available at that station, go to a different system and repeat. Continue to do so until you find a system with a station where there is one you can hire.

I had the same bug in my current save that I started new for Orbital. Not just for the overseer but for 3 other specialists too. The above method worked for finding someone to hire for all of them.

I never had to visit more than 2 or 3 stations before finding someone to hire for any of them. The bug is annoying, but it can be easily worked through.

I just edited my original response to mention, I didn't have to visit more than 2 or 3 system's stations before finding someone to hire, so it (hopefully) won't take you too long.

.. or perhaps get in your ship, get out, and go to options and reset. the marker will automatically move.

If he is experiencing the same bug that I did, that's not a resolution for it.

Save/reload has always worked for me when the marker gets stuck at the station entrance.

It didn't work me any of the times it happened in this save, with the orbital update. I tried multiple of the 'standard solutions' that often work with these kinds of issues and none of them worked.

I also believe it is a brand new issue that came with the Orbital update, related to the station overhauls, because I have done those specialist missions on dozens of different saves and never experienced it quite like this before.

If you don't have an economy scanner, you can get charts of commercial map data in the cartographer, and in the system that indicates the test marker in the other commercial ones, I think that the error occurs, because the original location was behind the left door, where the upgrade modules were purchased

A scanner isn't really needed, you can find the specialists in any station, not just ones of the correct race. Arguably, it's easier to find them in stations that are a different race because there won't be as many NPC's of the correct race who are not recruitable to check.

... my last 5 (yes, i play a lot) saves in "orbital" tell me someone doesn't know. that's fine. but reload last save works. without all the running around.

And I'm telling you it absolutely did not work for me. I didn't just try it once, I tried it every single time it happened to me. I tried it more than once the first two times, including not just leaving the station, but also going to an entirely different system and save/reload, going to planet surfaces and save/reload and a few other things.

I always do a lot of 'testing' to try to find a workaround when I experience a bug so I can include many details in the report to the zendesk.

Yeah, it's definitely only been an issue since Orbital. The first couple of times it happened to me I just spoke to everybody on the station until I found the specialist, but the last 3 or 4 times I've saved/reloaded and the marker has shown up to highlight them.

Don't know why it hasn't worked for you?

How recent for you was it? I haven't done those quests since around 4.62. Definitely not in 4.63 and 4.64.

@jagged: if you can't use it, that's sad. but just don't assume your situation is like everybody else. easy way: reset. your way: works, but with more... um.. running and asking. you've been around for a while. you should know occam's razor: in a situation with many answers, the easiest one is usually correct. no fights, just ease of gaming

I can't say for sure, but I wasn't doing it after Orbital was first released and it seems likely there had been at least one further update before I tried save/reload. I'm on the current Experimental build now (can't see the build number on the start-up screen anymore?).

Edit: Just tried hiring an Armorer and - of course - the marker was exactly where it should be on the correct Vy'keen in the station, so maybe the issue has been fixed in the last update?
